I really like these pencils. Years ago, I often used the stainless steel/plastic material combination model of these pencils, but upon further thought, perhaps the plastic is much less harmful to ecology to produce, and the transparency of it allows me to see when the pencil has very little lead left or if it has sufficient lead for the task being done. I saw a research video from Sweden, I believe, years ago where they were making plastic from fermented waste wood/anaerobically digested wood. I wonder if such plastic for mechanical pencils could be made from fermented lawn trimmings/clippings, and/or, please pardon me for the crudeness if such is offensive; sewage?
