Fifty years ago I bought a can opener exactly like this one. I tried to replace it with newer type openers,in short they did not work like my old one. I went to five stores trying to find a replacement, I was about to give up and I remembered Walmart. Thank you .
Mainstays Can Opener is very durable and it has shown no obvious signs of wear. After two months, the can opener's blade is still sharp and strong enough to open filled, frozen cans with ease. Keep Mainstays Can Opener free of rust and you may have the only can opener you'll need for a while.
Honestly, this can opener gets the job done. It's nothing fancy, but it opens cans smoothly without slipping or getting stuck. The grip is comfortable and easy to hold, and I like that it feels sturdy without being heavy. For the price, I think its well worth it
The item is exactly as pictured. I use a small wash cloth to give me a stronger hold on the knob while turning it. It does not open any type of can smoothly; I have to lean into it and turn hard. We all grew up with this same can opener, but without the fancy turn knob... it had a turn thingy but the entire structure was pure stainless steel. There has got to be something going on behind the manufacturing of handheld can openers in general, like mixing metals... another more stronger and expensive brand I bought several months back this year gave trouble when the knob wouldn't turn at all after two uses. Although real stainless steel does rust over time, it is more durable than two uses like in days gone by. After handwashing it, it is hung over the edge of the cooking utensil canaster to dry. I don't believe I will purchase this product again.
A nice dependable design that was made to be junk. Thin material and when applied is so hard to turn with it's crappy designed plastic knob that makes your fingers try to slide off. Also makes your fingers tired while trying to turn it. I had one similar for many years and was so happy with it. Nylon bushing split, so was hoping for another. It was so easy to use and this new one is junk from the beginning.
I've bought other Mainstays products before that are fine, and I'm always looking to spend less, especially on select items. I bought this can opener for camping, but it was totally useless, either due to design or manufacturing, or both. It simply could not maintain a grip on the can's lip, so it kept slipping off. It took me about 10 minutes to open a can, but I had to finish the process with my Swiss Army knife. This opener was so bad, I didn't want to curse others by donating it, so it went straight into the trash after camping.
This is the absolute worst can opener I have ever used, literally ever. It's so hard to twist, that even the men in the house have problems with it. %26 when we do get it to twist, it makes am swful squeaky noise and doesn't fully cut all the way around. We have to keep taking it off and readjusting it. I've found cheaper that work better. Don't waste your money. If you're looking for cheap, go to thr Dollar store, get one for $1, that DOESN'T have the black twist on it (trust me, it doesn't make the twisting any easier)
I literally used it twice. Now it just spins it does not cut down into the can and when it does cut down into the can, it does not move it just spins the wheels. Just spins. I had to open and close it in a pinching motion repeatedly to finish the rest of the second can
1. if the can is perfect and has a perfect rim height for this can opener, it works great 2. the gear wheel or crank keeps slipping off the rim and you have to keep replacing it on the can, if it's not perfectly shaped around the lid rim... 3. if the can has the slightest dent at the rim, forget it, it definitely will not work 4. no wonder it had a low return rate...it 1.12 each....not worth returning...you get what you pay for.. maybe it's user error but I have tried it several times... can must be shaped perfect and have the right height for the rim and no dents or imperfections vt
This can opener is a “ you get what you pay for”. Tried to open a can with this opener, but it would not turn the can nor stay in place at the rim. After repositioning it several times I managed to get the can open enough to bend the lid back to empty the contents. I do not recommend this can opener and suggest you put your money into one that will work.
