We needed to replace our 10-year-old detectors, but we couldn't find one that would fit the existing pre-cut ceiling opening. We searched every major big-box store and even the usual online retailers with no luck. Thankfully, I checked Walmart.com using their easy-to-use app and convenient shipping and pickup options. I searched for a Kidde hardwired combo detector, and there it was — an updated version that fit perfectly! I let our property management in on the finds for the other owners; and now our family is safe and protected once again. Thank you, Walmart.com!
Reasonably straightforward to install; compatible with my 5 or 6 year old Kidde hardwired units, though the plug has changed. Compatibility was very important to me, and it was hard to dig that information out of the various web sites. I will say that even within a single manufacturer's product line, there are really too many choices for much the same thing.
We purchased this as a replacement for one that was installed by the builder. No matter what we did the original one kept going off. We finally decided to replace it and this was the perfect match. Installed in minutes. And we've had no problems ever since which is going on 6 1/2 months. if you need a hardwired smoke alarm with the additional battery back up, this is the one you should purchase
I am a landlord and I have to install these in all my unit hallways. They have been going up in price a lot over the last few years. As I already have Kidde installed, it is often easier to stay with this brand. I appreciate the price Walmart offers and their quick delivery.
Easy, straightforward installation if you're replacing existing hardwired smoke and CO detectors. It was basically plug and play since the wiring was already in place. Everything worked ok… all 9 of them!
Only issue was the installation. The fit between the body of the detector and the mounting ring was excessively tight. I had to file down the mounting tabs to get it on. I was replacing a previous Kiddie had aged out. It had the same mounting ring/style but no such issue. Another little bother, for some reason they had changed the electrical clip requiring that you rewire the new style clip in. The real test of these detectors are the frequency of random, middle of the night, false alarms and only time will tell for that.
The Kidde product line is very decent and picked by professionals for the overall use of Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors in houses. I like the fact that they have built in 10-year life batteries in some of the product line. I would particularly recommend the units with the 10-year battery life if the detector is located on a high ceiling or in a difficult place when it comes to changing the backup batteries (when hardwired) or when the unit is fully battery operated and located in a difficult place to service. Also, since the units that include the carbon monoxide sensors/function are only recommended for use for 10 years (they expire and the unit has a 10-year beeping alarm for replacement), it makes sense to only need one battery over the lifetime of the alarm. The little turning on/off switch on the underside of the alarm for the 10-year battery units is a bit confusing on the unit and within the installation documents. This could be improved so that the installer easily recognizes how that switch should be set. The alarm units are a bit confusing from the standpoint that some have 2each AA batteries for power, others have the 10-year internal battery, some only have a beeping alarm, others include a voice alarm also and some units are hardwired with battery backup while others are strictly battery powered. This is more difficult to discern when ordering the product online since some of the internet description info is not entirely accurate. Get the right one, they are generally competitively priced against other brands of detectors, they are fairly easy to install or replace an existing detector, and they are long-term dependable with being made in America.
I bought 2 detectors for $96. The pickers didn't scan one and it was wrong item. I tried to do exchange but not available. Went to Walmart for $48 refund and was told just grab replacement off shelf. But it rings up at $65. I asked to have it honored at $48 because of picker mistake. Was told not possible. After finally discussing with manager, we just refunded the second half of 2 pack and was told to get price I would have to buy online 2-pack price again for $96, which I did. But now I have to come back to store 4 hours later today to pick up. Ridiculous process due to error in this physical store. Customer service hands tied. Make online purchase returns/exchanges happen at a separate online counter to fix everything. Buying online with delivery plus tip not worth the hastle. Corporate should fix this. All I needed was to be handed the correct item I paid for and just turn in the wrong item and all would be forgiven, even the wasted delivery and driving time.
Received the wrong item. All requests for original order come back "Uh-oh... This page could not be found". I ordered the wireless and verified this upon delivery. shortly after when I was getting ready to return it, I had no access to the original order.
Ordered 2 hardwire and after having electrician here found out that one was just a battery operated one. This was 3 weeks ago and still have not received replacement. Cancelled order and still waiting on refund, in the mean time we are down a smoke alarm which is not cool. Plus these things are way too expensive
