Bought this to do one thing only: remove "butyl rubber tape" ... from a nearly 30-year-old vehicle. It did that very effectively. Read on if you want more detail. What is "butyl rubber tape"? The black stuff inside the vehicle door around the edges of the "vapor barrier". It never fully "cures" (hardens), so it's still as badly (goodly?) sticky as chewing gum even after years. That is what the auto manufacturers want it to do. This 3M Adhesive Remover, sprayed in sufficient quantity, and using a whole lot of (disposable paper) shop rags, removed 100% of the residue of the black sticky mess (after I first used an electric heat gun to remove the initial 90% by scraping it off once it got soft*) -- WITHOUT ANY HARM AT ALL to the paint finish (hidden inside the door behind the interior panel). If I needed to do this job again, I'd order more, but thankfully, I'm done and hope to never have to replace a vapor barrier again. NOTE WELL -- while it says "<20% VOC" (volatile organic compounds) is still needs to be used in a WELL VENTILATED AREA ... the fumes are still nasty / toxic smelling and will make your throat burn if you don't have enough ventilation. If you have a large shop fan, I suggest using it. ASIDE on Butyl Rubber Tape Removal -- When I did the 2nd of two doors, instead of the heat gun I just did the scraping on a hot day (high '80s temp outside, hotter in my garage) and treated the tape like chewing gum (wearing nitrile gloves!!!) -- using its own stickiness / tackiness to get close to 98% off before spraying this solvent. That method saved a lot of time and I could use a lot less of this solvent. And breath a lot less fumes.
This spray is amazing stuff. Used it to remove the 3M car bra from the hood of a 16 year old Toyota 4 Runner, and light sprays dissolved the adhesive enough that plastic razor blades easily slid between the cracked, old plastic and the paint, and helped uncover the long-hidden paint job. Another light spray and the residue came off with a microfiber rag. Completed the whole removal and still have half a can left .
Amazing. There was some baked on sticky stuff on white passenger car door. It says to wait a few minutes. After I sprayed I saw the stuff falling off in 2 or 3 seconds. Wow.
Genuinely fantastic. My car had some sort of adhesive all over it on the hood and front fenders and this stuff melted through it extremely fast without damaging the clear coat or paint in any way. It only took 15-20 seconds per area to loosen the adhesive and then I just wiped it off with a microfiber towel and washed the car after to make sure none of it dried on the paint to avoid future issues if any got left behind. This stuff was a life saver when prepping my car for car shows and removing shipping/dealership stickers and it's so easy to use that I probably could've taught my dog how to use it safely. I generally use 3M supplies whenever I can because they're always some of the best on the market and this was no exception.
One of the car brand decal letter had fallen off and needed to be reglued. I've done careful research on-line about this product focusing specifically on the tutorials by professional %26 reputable auto mechanics and users' review. After following the instruction exactly, I was able to achieve the back-to-original results. Now my letter decal has been through car washes, bad weathers, and busy parking lots without any issues, thanks to this double-sided tape.
I bought this to remove old sun baked vinyl on my car. I was concerned about damaging the paint but did my research and found this product. Boy oh boy did it work wonders! There was a nasty yellow residue that the vinyl had left and this help peel it clean off without harming my paint. A little goes a long way, you just have to work in sections. I recommend using a plastic "putty knife" to scrape adhesive after application. Great product! I included pictures to show how it helped, please disregard the yellowing, that is caused by UV light on the adhesive. I'm hoping to buff that out! 3m Adhesive worked wonders
Worked well to remove some old spray adhesive residue and weatherstripping cement. It worked best after letting it sit for a bit.
Used this to remove the leftover adhesive from a Rear Bumper Appliqué. Which is the clear polyurethane protection film on the rear bumper to protect it from scratches. The clear film was looking really bad on my 11 year old car. Removed it with a hair dryer and plastic scraper tool, as to not scratch the paint, but it left the stubborn glue behind. Tried using Goo Gone, but that just made it worse and made a big, sticky mess. Did some internet research to discover that the 3M Adhesive Remover is what professional auto body shops use to remove the glue residue from paint protection films, window tint film, large advertising stickers, and the like. Got a can of this, and it works much better than Goo Gone. Also, even though this is strong at removing the adhesive, it doesn't damage the underlying paint. I used about 1/2 the can on a very stubborn PPF bumper film. Had to go over it about 3 times to get all the adhesive off, along with a handful of old rags. Use in well ventilated area, as fumes are very strong. But that's a good thing, because you know this is seriously strong stuff to remove messy glues and adhesives. Unlike Goo Gone that also leaves oily residue behind, that then also needs to be cleaned off. This evaporates and doesn't leave anything behind, like if you used alcohol or something like that.
This works very well. It takes off spray painted surfaces on a car when you mess up . It works very good.
Good product for basis removals . I don't recommend it for stubborn decals.
