I haven't been using it long enough to judge battery use but..... I'm going to try rechargeables anyway. Right now it's "sending" the figures for...high of the day, the low of the day, and the CURRENT temperature from the inside of... an outside unused garbage coop with a plastic cover "kitty door" that I have affixed with a low-wattage (250 WATT ) flat Wall-mount heater inside. I am testing this coop out as a refuge/food warmer for a feral cats feeding spot because we get Zero (and sometimes LOWER temps) here in Winter, and I want to KNOW rather than guess if that heater is doing enough to keep canned "wet" food from freezing up before any ferals show up after I put the meal out there. . ( I plan to use the heater only if outside temps drop below 40 or so. Unplugging the extension cord that goes out there for awhile will also give me an accurate ACTUAL/FACTUAL temp reading for the area also. I've compared the temperature readout of this gauge to my fancy indoor $90 gauge side-by-side, and they read but only 1 degree difference. ( Note: If JUST placed somewhere, You DO have to allow about 5 minutes for the instrument to adjust to any new ambient temperature for an accurate reading. ) The sensor outside is messaging through the coop's plastic kitty-door, AND the wall of my house, then another 15 feet or so for about a 60 foot total distance easily, and without blips! I didn't need a version costing twice or thrice the cost that tells time and humidity and wind speed etc, etc, etc. This works. It works WELL. AND... It didn't cost me 5 hours pay. I'm very satisfied!

We enjoy the convenience of a good temperature reading without the need to go outside and figure it out.

It just sits there on my desk (I feed it energy via batteries) and tells me the temperature, inside and out! How handy!
