I opened it up. I put food in. It sat it down, rolled it towards him. He seen the food fall out and he's like games on. He's 5 months old and he loves it in the first five minutes.
I thought it was going to be a bust. He tried to bite the middle and walked away. Then the pup jumped away when I rolled it. Uh Oh ... BUT then he found the kibble trail %26 now he's been entertained by it (actually helping get him to eat his dry food). He's an aggressive chewer so I'm totally impressed he hasn't tried to remove the rubber ends (middle is hard plastic %26 I guess not the appealing type ... yet) It's bright %26 colorful so easy to find. He's an active pup - so to get him to be occupied without destroying another toy is great. So now I'm very happy we bought this .... definite WIN!!!
This was fun for my dogs for about 15 minutes and then my Jack Russell (aka garbage disposal) decided it was easier to chew the top off than figure it out. He's a mess! But in a good way. Not for aggressive chewers!
This item seems to be as advertised. It just wasn't for my small (not tiny) dog. I just could not get her to acccept it. Note: Have had treat/food toys before so am versed in how to use them. Anyway, I donated this one to other dog families and hope they enjoy it. It's a fun idea, but my current girl just isn't interested.
This is a challenging puzzle for my 6 month old dog. She enjoys rolling it around as she anticipates the treat being dispensed. At first nothing was happening because I only had a few kibbles inside and it took a very long time for one to finally come out. But after adding many more pieces they came out quicker but not an overwhelming amount. So perhaps at first I should fill it up and then as she figures it out put less in so it's more challenging. It seems to be made well although it did come already scuffed up a bit. The end pieces are a little finicky to screw back on once they are off but it's ok.
Do not give it to a chewy, hungry dog. In ten minutes it was chewed up as he wanted the contents faster than he could get it to come out. This was after dinner and after removing the maze from the blue end before I gave it to him. This was a 23%23 Sheltie, 18 months old. My older dog uses it without destroying it. And yes he was in the same room as I was.
Takes a certain size of treat or will not fall out or will fall out too fast. Can adjust speed of dispersal with the 2 inserts but not ideal unless right size of treat is used. If any furnishings have space enough for toy to travel under it will - every time. It is fun to watch dog trying to figure it out, but cannot leave alone to play with it like I'd hoped. It does get dirty with pup pushing it eveeywhere and slobbering on it, and 2 inserts not easily sanitized.
I bought for my lab as a brain activity. She's a chewer so maybe this wasn't a fair review. She chewed it up pretty good within minutes, never got a treat out. So it went strictly to the cat toys. At treats came out way easier and 2 of the 4 cats roll it around now and again. Not my intention but as least someone is happy
This would probably work great, but it doesn't seem to fit standard dog food pebble size. None of the food that we have bought fits through the holes for my dog to get them out. Overall, pretty much unusable for us.
The treats have to be very, VERY small to fit through the passages and out of the toy, and when they do come out it's nearly all at once. I couldn't find any treats at the store that were already small enough to fit and had to take scissors and cut up some soft puppy training treats. All in all, it wasn't worth the time and effort...or the cost of the toy which I won't use again.
