This light board has good points and bad ones. I almost closed the unmarked box it came in as soon as I opened it, however, it is less expensive than the other unit I bought.
Cons: It arrived in an unmarked, brown box and didn't include directions nor warnings. It has an electrical box 24" down. It has a two pronged plug, so it is ungrounded. There is no clear covering over the LED's to protect them. They are raised and sharp, so may snag. There is no back cover, just a wired held on with glue. The plug only has two prongs. The board is likely aluminum or steel and is about as thin as two credit cards. Pros: It is very light weight (likely less than a lb). It is very bright (see light meter pic). It seems to not get very hot. I tested the temp front and back, before and after 10 min. Front: 75°f, Back: 74°f. It has no fans nor any timing settings. After 10 min Front: 88°f, Back: 84°f. It came with all needed hardware plus one extra clip.
I will give it a try to see if there are any electrical issues related to a slightly humid growing room. I hope I don't electrocute myself. It is a lot brighter than the used, tube light, aquarium set up I currently have up. I don't really have any reasonable doubt that it isn't bright enough. I am more concerned about the potential safety risk to both me, and the two light boards. I got the email extended warranty, so hopefully I won't be out the entire cost if this doesn't work out.
Normally, I would wait until I used the product before reviewing it (I don't like reviews here that haven't tried the things they review), but, with the safety concerns I have, I don't want anyone to consider buying this with being made aware of the way it comes. I would have normally given it a try for a month and compare seedling starts. If you do decide to try this, just be careful, wear rubber soled shoes, and be careful if you need to handle it when it is on. A GFI would be a good idea.
