My dog's pain pills are scored for halving. They are not really small, so for the first month, I tried just breaking them with my hands, but that was always iffy and, given their potency, it became stressful to me. This device helps to really line them up, makes it easy to see, easy to break, and there's no more stress! Note: I've recently (finally!) been solution-focused, and I'm really happy to have given this a try.
I personally like these pill cutters. I find usually after the first couple of washing's the plastic guard doesn't work smoothly, so I cut the plastic as close to base as I can and remove it. I have meds that I cut in half daily and can usually get a even half. That's why I will continue to buy these pill cutters.
This is my second one by this manufacturer. My first one died of old age (use). I like it because I can cut the larger pills in half. I have a smaller one but it does not cut the large pills. Very satisfied with this purchase.
The rubberized pill holder holds the pill secure while cutting. There is a protective shield over the blade when the cutter is open to protect from getting cut. There is a tray to hold the pills after they have been cut. This is a very well thought out and practical tool.
I needed something reliable, easy and accurate to cute small tablets in half. This is absolutely perfect!!!! I can cut 30 tablets quickly...makes my life easier!! I am thankful to have found this.
The last on i purchased lasted years so it made perfect sense to buy it again. Highly reccomend!
For the money it works better than the one I had prior to purchase. From the original add photo's I thought it had bumps to hold pill in place, not so. The big advantage is being able to view your placement prior to cut.
Difficult to split pills smaller than in half
This pill splitter is probably one of the best you can get for the first 100 pills, but after that, it is ready for the trash basket. There is a plastic shield that covers the blade when the splitter is open, and slides out of the way when you close it and split the pill. The sliding action of this shield eventually cracks it and the splitter is then useless. The VERY reasonable price is the only reason I continue to buy this device, but if APEX ever raises the price, I will go back to another device. I checked that I WOULD recommend this to friends, but it would definitely be with a warning. A NOTE TO APEX: If you want to keep selling these splitters, tell your retailers to control their pricing!!
It was the cheapest one I could find. It requires you toalign the pill correctly, but it is doable. Are there better ones out there? Sure, but you pay more for their bells and whistles. I am not sure how long this blade will last though; it isn't replaceable. If you plan on using a pill splitter for long term use, you may want a device that has a replaceable blade.
