The sheer color on this particular shade (Sky Blue) is beautiful. I have yet to see another clay match this outside of the Fluorescent Blue by Sculpey, even then, this shade is beautiful in its own right. This shade does feel softer than the other colors, and while I havent worked with it yet, I still plan on mixing it with a sculpey 3 to ensure it is easily worked with. This brand as a whole is a little bit crumbly so thats my recommendation to counter it. However the colors are well worth the money and its easy enough to fix the softness problems. Having been a polymer clay artist since 2014, I often buy clay for the color and work it into other colors to make it pliable. Fimo often has this crumbly problem as well. So this does not scare me off.
You've GOTTA try this new “Art Skills” polymer clay, you WILL NOT be disappointed! I absolutely LOVE EVERYTHING about it, from the price, to the vast %26 GORGEOUS color selection, availability, %26 ESPECIALLY the consistency of the bricks! As a clay artist, my “go-to” is typically Fimo brand-as I prefer a nice, firm clay. (This allows me to easily create pieces that won't deform due to hand temp while handling the clay) I didn't have high hopes in trying this brand, mainly bc many reviewers wrote such negative things-HOWEVER, I feel that's a lack of knowledge on their part, 100%!!! THIS CLAY ROCKS! IMO-it's a fantastic Fimo dupe! (honestly, they're SO comparable, at a FRACTION of the cost!) Additionally, I've conducted multiple fracture tests in this clay, %26 am blown away at the strength %26 flexibility of this polymer! (Phenomenal adhesion properties as well!) I absolutely LOVE this clay, %26 my customers do too; I take pride in my work, using only the BEST items for my pieces, and all the “Art Skills” line has gotten my full stamp of approval! (**TIP:** since the clay IS a “harder” clay, just slice the brick a bit thinner, %26 roll it…it'll become beautifully soft %26 workable in no time!)
Unfortunately, the ARTSKILLS polymer clay that I bought was old, so it wasn't very pliable and after baking it had cracks. Normally this polymer clay is very good. I had to run it under hot water to make it more pliable. I guess it was sitting in the store for too long.
I'm new to working with clay, but I don't think I'm misjudging. This was HARD. I beat it with a roller, rolled it in my hands, sat on it for a bit, added a little hand cream. It was still very stiff. I'll be returning what I haven't used for something with easier to work with ratings. Clay feels fun, but I don't want to fight it the whole time.
I have been a polymer clay artist since 2014 and have worked with all kinds of clay in all kinds of environments, ovens, etc. This clay is not bad, however it does require more work than other brands. This clay reminds me of the period of time where Premo was rock hard bc not enough plasticizer was used in it to soften it. This makes the clay hard, hard to work up (condition), and often requires to be warmed up before trying to condition it. HOWEVER, I adore these colors. They have some beautiful colors that work up well in other clays. I personally mixed this one with Sculpey 3 pearl/glow in the dark to soften it. It still took some time (approximately 20 minutes) to mix the crumbles into the other clay but it could be done. I 100% recommend this clay, however keep in mind that it needs some help to get moving and to be sculptable. I would suggest using a translucent of some kind (i would recommend Sculpey 3 just because of how soft it is vs how hard this clay was) to mix it into to make it user friendly. I will be purchasing again simply for the color sake. This is possibly the most beautiful earthy green I have seen to date. When mixed into my clays, it looked like the summertime grasses around where I live.
It was too HARD. I'm new, but I tried everything. Rolling and folding in my hands. Beating it with a roller, adding hand cream, sitting on it for a bit. It was eventually workable but still stubborn. I'll be returning what I haven't used for something easier to work with. This would be fun if I weren't fighting it the whole time.
VERY VERY DRY ! Also very firm. It's has taken me over an hour to get it close to where it needs to be to sculpt with it. The sad things also is I purchased 4-5 of these.
this clay brand is not great. it is very crumbly and no matter how much I worked it it would turn into a good clay texture. I would not purchase this again.
Dull colors and very difficult to work with. It crumbled in my hands making it a huge pain to condition.
Art skills Clay is so dry and crumbly, even after adding sculpey clay softener and mineral oil, it's flakey and very difficult to condition. It took me almost an hour to condition one 2oz package.
