Way exceeded my expectations. It was easy to install and worked beautifully. It has a safety feature to stop closing if it detects something in its path, which is not something I noticed in the description.
Why do I wait so long to buy this?? So great to not have to close up the chickens at night ! It lets them out at the same time every morning , it's a real time saver . Husband said it's easy installation. So far so good , it's been a month . Hopefully it won't disappoint.
We bought this because in the night the coyotes or bobcats get into the chicken coop. If we get home late, it’s nice to know that’s a little door shut by itself at dusk
I'm very impressed by this door. it is easy and straitforward to program. You can charge up via usb plug and the solar. It can go with dusk and dawn or set hours to open %26 close. We use the hour option due to our coop being brightly lit. The door sensor works and does have some presure before it retreats, but it works. A chicken may get a neck ache but not a broken neck as it retreats quickly. my other door had multipke cords sensors and a comlicated piston system. This one is a one-and-done deal. It took less than five minutes to install and that was because my hole to big and had to do some carpentry.
We bought this item so that in case the weather is really bad we can avoid going outside to let the chickens out/in. After a couple of nights of adjusting the light feature I has been very effective in closing AFTER they are inside. We have a few “late night” hens! We have been using it for about one month and so far it is doing a good job.
Easy to install. Works well. Door is not heavy duty though, a motivated predator could get through. I like the solar panel, but the light sensor is attached to the door, not solar panel. Where I installed the door is shaded and light sensor closes the door prematurely.
I think it is WAY SMALLER than I had anticipated. I am a little discouraged with the way the doors open and close because they don't have safety features and now I have an injured old lady bird that likes to sit in the doorway to watch over the little chickens outside. Needless to say, the sliding mechanism won't stop if there is a chicken sitting in it! Otherwise, it has been pretty cool! I hope with some time it will be a great purchase! On the size...my chickens all have large bodies and long legs, so this is new that they have to scrunch down and suck in their wings to fit through the door! If you have smaller breed chickens, you should be fine.
Everything is wonderful! The only thing I’m confused about is for the solar time of when to open and close there’s numbers from 14-99 and I’m not sure if that means minutes after sun or fullness of sun? I will have to wait for the coop to come before I can really figure it out but we’ve tested it by the solar and electric charge and the door opens and closes beautifully. The other concern I have is we tested the anti pinch on my boyfriend’s foot and it doesn’t quite “bounce up” as stated, but it recognizes a block a little too slowly for me. But I guess I’ll have to adjust it to the sun more than when I want my chickens in because they are good about getting into their coop when it gets darker. Something I’ll just have to play with every day until it works out.
Neither the anti-pinch or the alert worked on the unit we received. I do not know if this is indicative of the product or just what we received. We returned it for a refund as the safety feature was one of the main reasons we purchased this item. The door is advertised as "Anti-Pinch %26 Alert" stating "Anti-Pinch Function: Keep your chickens safe with automatic chicken door's anti-pinch feature, which give the chickens an extra layer of security. If the door senses poultry while it is closed, it will rise 3 cm, rest for 10 seconds and then close again. Ensure poultry safety. Alert System: When there are 3 abnormal closing, the chicken door will emit a continuous red light and beeping alarm until the door is closed. It prevents other animals from killing your poultry."
Purchased in mid-December. Stopped working in March. Was easy to install and worked in the beginning. It charges now, but the doors won’t open or close whether you do it manually or programmed.
