Believe it or not this is my third Black %26 Decker heavy duty iron. The first one I gave to my daughter used because she needed an iron and couldn't wait for me to buy it, the second one someone stole it. (It happens) and my third I keep under lock and key. lol, but seriously, this iron leaves your clothing looking like you've been to the professionals (dry cleaners). The steam is a winner with my polyester work pants the creases are incredible. I love, love, love this iron for my clothes.
Because it is old fashioned and actually works. The price was right and all the other irons are made like garbage, they have extra buttons and dials I have no need for and finally not comfortable to use and don't iron so well.
i have been looking for a good old style iron that is heavy and takes out the wrinkles without having to push through the ironing board. This fits the bill to a t. wonderful i even love to iron now and that is saying something i threw 2 others away before i found this one.
I've been buying this classic for the past twenty years. I keep two in my sewing room.....one next to my sewing machine and a second one at a much larger sewing table. When I first started quilted my mentor told me this is the best iron quilters.......has great steam, and is nice and heavy a little over 3#, gets very very hot. And the price can't be beat. A few years ago it was reintroduced with the basic features , no frills, no beeping, no huge bursts of steam but a great product. I'm certain they wouldn't need frequent replacement in my sewing room (once every 4-5 years) if I didn't drop them so frequently.....a few years ago the manufacturer added a Teflon sole plate and I bought one. Love it , keep it upstairs in utility room for clothing touch up. Quilters need the heat for we almost exclusively use 100% cotton fabrics. a great product! AnD a super great price. Quilters also leave irons on almost all the time they are sewing. This product gets a real workout in my home.
Growing up my mom used this iron and I love it. This is the best iron I have ever used in my life. The durability, weight and quality of the material is still number (1) in my opinion. By the way I am 70 plus year old and the last time I bought an iron was approximately (20) years ago.
So far, so good. Things I assumed going into this...I assumed it was going to be as heavy as it looked and it is. It has the look and feel of an old vintage iron. They do call it the "classic". I knew it had no burst of steam of water sprayer buttons but it does have a steam button and the steam works well in my opinion. I also knew it probably wouldn't heat up as hot as my other irons from the past but it's also 1100 watts vs 1700. I like that the sole plate is stainless steel and I've decided to stick with irons that have that. The dial shows which fabrics each setting is for which is always nice. Simply put, I purchased this as a back up to another new iron I bought that sadly didn't work straight out of the box. An iron I purchased with a sprayer and steam burst button, both of which did not work. I'm thankful I bought 2 and that this one at least works. I do recommend it for those that don't need SUPER hot, don't need the steam and sprayer button functions and don't mind a heavy iron. I'm happy with this purchase.
This iron feels and looks old school (in a good way) and solid. The heft of it is perfect, no too light to press out wrinkles, not too heavy to tire out your arm when ironing a few pieces. It heats quickly and steams well. The only thing it seems to be missing is a spritz function to enable one to spray a mist of water onto especially tough wrinkles while ironing. Although I must admit that I haven't needed that function because the iron knocks the wrinkles out easily without it. I'm just used to having it. Otherwise, this iron is a solid buy for the money!
I purchased this iron because I remembered having one when I was younger! The only setback to that is "back in the day" we used starch! The newer irons come with the water squirt feature that helps you get the wrinkles out of your clothes...and this one doesn't :( Also, the newer irons come with a see through feature so you can know how much water is in the iron...this one doesn't :( So if you're ironing something that doesn't have a lot of wrinkles or if you still own starch this iron is great!!! If not you should pass and leave this one in the past!!!
I like that the classic iron is like the old type irons that we used to use..pretty heavy..nice amount of steam and a nice long cord. The only issue I didnt like was when you turn the iron to 0 on settings..it should turn off but it doesnt..The red light just starts blinking after a few minutes..and the plate stays hot..It has to be unplugged to get it to shut off. Maybe I just got a defective product..Will probably return because of that issue.
By classic it means that the only upgrade is steam. The light does not stay on to indicate it is heating. There is no level water line that I could find. It is small, which I liked and not too heavy and not light, the only qualities I liked about it. It also came with some sort of light smear across the center. I plugged it in and waited. The light came on at plug in and when I heard the steam sound I proceeded to iron a tshirt. The bottom stuck to the shirt. I looked and there was a light to slightly darker grey/black smear across the center of the plate. I ironed over wax paper which normally removes any kind of sticky residue but it did not remove this smear. Therefore, I am assuming it is some sort of factory defect and this is only one of the reasons I am returning it. I wanted a classic iron that had at least a water indicator line and would cut off automatically which I am assuming this one does not,
