I have bought grill for the patio about every 5 years but I have bought one for camping almost every year. Both were complicated to set up and didn't really work that well. The Char-Broil TRU-infrared Grill2Go has taken the place of both. There are a very few parts and they are easily replaceable and with two quick snaps of the buckles, it it ready to go.
This is an awesome portable grill. I use it for camping and I get perfect steaks every time. It gets very hot so sometimes you have to turn it way down but it is infrared so that'S to be expected. It has a tall lid so getting a pot in there isn't an issue. Works great.
I bought this just about a 10 month ago for our 3 week trip around the 4 states of Arizona, New mexico, Utha & Colorado. Used it every night of the trip. I am also just about out somewhere every weekend camping. I take it everywhere with me. I am told by everybody who uses it that they are going to buy one as it cooks very well in little time at all. I love this little BBQ & even use it at home when it is just me. I think my home BBQ doesn't like me any more.
I was looking for a portable BBQ that would be an improvement over my older tabletop BBQ, and this Tru Infrared intrigued me. After getting it we initiated it with grilling salmon, and it did a beautiful job on it. I didn't realize how much oil is in salmon. The grill kept flames (flair up)from coming through. It cooks evenly, and the piazo igniter and temperature gauge are great to have.
This grill is exceptionally well built and appears that it will handle lots of traveling. I bought it to carry in my motorhome where it will get banged around a bit. Most of my grilling is steak or hamburgers which I have tried both on this grill. The results were excellent. This grill puts out plenty of heat to sear steaks etc. but it may be too much for barbequed chicken or sausage when placed directly on the grill. As others have commented it is difficult to get a lower heat even on the lowest setting. When I do try chicken or sausage I will wrap them in foil and see how that works. Possibly even leave the lid open
I bought this to downsize from my original weber Q and also get something that operated better at higher elevations. The weber has a much large grill surface then I typically need and struggles to stay hot when used over 8,000' The smaller X200 heats up fast, is easy to regulate the heat and has no flare-up. I also like just being able to throw un-soaked wood chips on the grill. I thought I would use this exclusively for camping since I have a large outdoor grill on my deck but the performance of this is really quite good and 100% better regarding flare-ups which my large classic-style grill with open porcelain coated cast iron grates is horrible at dealing with. I also like how the regulator and propane bottle easily remove for storing inside the grill for transport or if it is going to rain during the night (obviously wait until the grill is cold!) I use foil to line the grease catch so I don't have to clean it .. just toss the foil. I also followed the prep guidelines using canola oil to season the grill grate, cover, etc. I use cast iron pans every day so this is not un-familiar to me. I have a dedicated oil brush for the grill ($3) and coat the grates with canola oil once the grill has cooled down. So ...sears really well, lightweight, heats fast, easy temperature regulation, efficient propane usage, no flare-ups, handles wood chips.
What a great grill. I have just went on a three week camping trip and we used it every day. I wish I had bought this earlier, I was buying 1 to 2 cheap ones a season but I don't think I will have to buy another on for a long time.
Bought this just prior to Jeep Beach. Grilled up 10 Pounds of Picanha Steaks. They were delicious. The grill performed fantastically even though the fat is heavy on these steaks so you need to keep it closed to avoid flare ups. Can't wait to try some slow roasting items. Would have given 5 but cleaning the grill after use is a challenge due to the design of the cooking surface. The carrying case is great to pack or store...
Very sturdy grill and good quality. Better stability than those with folding legs. Never figured out why 48" is in the title as it is 24" wide. Have to use lowest flame setting or the thermometer will peg on max. Could use a vent on top to let some heat out if it gets too hot but otherwise a great grill.
Our Grill to Go is the perfect size for use in our RV. The grill is big enough for a larger group and the tru-infrared allows for cooking at lower temperatures, thereby saving propane. Overall, a very good brill
