Clear, Varathane Ultimate Polyurethane, Gloss-200041H, Quart

Varathane is my go-to for glossy protective finishes. It's easy to use, but you need to ventilate %26 read the instructions well first. Varathane polyurethane needs to build up in dried layers, so you can usually reapply thin coats every 2 hours. You don't want to wait more than 24 hours between layers or you may need to sand a bit (recommended on can). Drying time is relatively quick compare to other household DIY products of similar nature. It's easy to tell when it is drying because its milky white coloration turns clear. I first used Varathane on the dining room table I'd custom painted. I have been so impressed with it. If you are patient enough to apply 7 or more thin layers, it is so reliable even on surfaces that take rough daily use like a dining room table when you have a toddler! I've not had any problem with the Varathane wearing off or failing to protect the table. It's an amazing, glossy preservative that's amazing for woods. It also keeps the natural distress in the wood, especially if you stain first to highlight the 'scars' in the wood. Varathane can be used on uneven surfaces with great success. The key is to apply multiple thin coats and wait for them to dry. You can get a lot of use out of one quart of the product. For how helpful it, is I think it's a great buy. Varathane is great for preserving the exact look %26 quirks of whatever wood you are using. It's tough, artistic, and will make just about any DIY project look so much more professional %26 appealing. It's a must-have for glossy, clear finish!

I absolutely love this product. I've used it to top coat painted faux-marble countertops, as well as painted flooring. I appreciate that it's thin so it dries fast and a little goes a long way. I use 3 coats on my counters and floors and they hold up well

My husband built our cabinets out of scrap poplar and our countertops out of scrap pine which we stained with an oil-based stain. We didn't have the money to buy multiple finishing products so we needed something that we could finish both the cabinets and the countertops with, that would not yellow over time or otherwise detract from the different colors in the poplar, that would stand up to the usual traffic that comes through a kitchen, and still look professional - and let me say, this product checked every box and then some. It's only been a few months but the countertops have no dings or scratches and the cabinets still look as good as new. He applied 2-3 light coats to the cabinets and 4-5 to the counters and none of them are tacky or sticky, there are no brush strokes or uneven spots, it really looks factory-made. A little goes a very long way. My husband does know what he's doing but as long as you read and follow the instructions on the can (DO NOT shake this product) , your results will be very similar. Really a very versatile, budget-friendly, quality product for everyone from those just dipping a toe into woodworking to folks with 40 years of it under their belt.

I put 3 coats on all of my projects. Dries hard and dosen't chip.

This product is the ultimate polyurethane gives a rich glossy finish. The best part of this product is after two hours. You can put down your second coat without sanding. I did three coats. I'd use the Minwax polyurethane and did not hold up well at all.

This is a great product and it goes on smoothly.

Can was bent, varnish was dried all over the can.

If you are a fan of oil based this will seem like a let down, too watery and not as good of a depth effect for amount of layers
