Great tent for beginners

Mettephysical August 28, 2013

This is an excellent tent. It is more than capable of keeping the rain out, but it also allows a flow of air when all vents are open. The value of this tent is very high given the cost. The buyer should beware, however, that the tent accumulates moisture on the inside of the rain fly, and that this product is probably best used in a low humidity climate.

Exceeded my expectations

BillinRoberta June 11, 2014

I received my tent one day quicker than expected. We went camping that weekend, and it rained on and off for two days. The tent kept us perfectly dry. The built in porch gave us plenty of room to store our gear and keep it dry, without having to have it in the tent. Saturday in a storm with 40 mile an hour winds blew through and the tent held up with no issues. I would highly recommend it.

Love It!!!

Binanchi45 October 20, 2014

I have a Hooligan 2, a Hooligan 3 and now a Hooligan 4. My only regret is that they don't make a Hooligan 5. I love that there is a large vestibule on all these tents and that the bathtub bottom does not leak, ever!!! I set mine up in a monsoon here in Michigan one night and it shook and blew but never leaked or collapsed in the wind. I could not be happier with this Hooligan line of Coleman tents. We hiked the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore with two of the Hooligan 3 tents and 4 guys. They stood up to the rain, wind and kept us warm and dry.

Good tent for the cost

History2 September 1, 2014

The reason I purchased this tent is the full coverage fly. After spending a very rainy weekend in it, we stayed perfectly dry. The main body goes up pretty quickly. The fly takes a bit longer to install and adjust properly. With practice I think I could do it faster. The vestibule is large and our shoes stayed dry under it. The vestibule door is smaller than it looks on the picture which means you have to crawl out of the vestibule before you can stand up. I would like to see stronger stakes, they bend rather easy in hard ground. Good for car camping, too heavy for backpacking.

Great tent!

SBGuess August 8, 2014

This tent is easy to set up, is of great quality, and has a nice vestibule for storing items. Roomy inside and comes with plenty of stakes. We took this tent to camp in Yellowstone and had a few days of rain, and the inside of the tent and inside the vestibule were completely dry. I would highly recommend this tent. Great quality for the price! Much nicer than an REI tent that I paid triple the amount for. Buy this tent and you won't be disappointed!

Super buy Great quality

HollieIndiana February 27, 2014

Saved $82.00 buying from Walmart rather then Coleman. Great tent great price. little Heavy for backpacking we put ours in a stuff sack made it a lot easer to pack. We have 2 adults and 3 kids ( 15, 13, 11) and a small dog all fit very well. Tight rainfly is nice, the extra space in front kept the tent clean, because we could remove our shoes. YES would recommend to family & friends & strangers also.

A great 3-4 person 3-season tent

BoostBoy July 26, 2014

The Hooligan appears to be a well-made Coleman product, exactly what we're used to from them. It is attractive and well-sized for a "four-man". The rainfly is more red than orange. The bathtub floor in particular is quite durable in hand, and its no-seam welded construction will surely help waterproofness. Of course always use a sufficiently sized ground cloth, turned down and under the tent to keep water from getting between the groundcloth and tent floor. The shock-corded poles are the usual sturdy steel, and appear to be the same exact construction as my fifteen year old Coleman Montana, our full-sized family tent. No problems there. Virtually the only problem with setup is the poles getting stuck within the sleeves, but this is universal and no big deal. You just work them through. One complaint I have is that you will never be able to get the tent back in the extra small square bag it comes in, not unless you're an expert packer with a lot of time on your hands. I have already bought a new full-sized stuff-sack for the tent and this will be a lot easier. Had to cut the setup instructions out of the old bag but so be it. I thought the entrance was on the end of the tent but it is on te side facing the vestibule, so my queen sized mattress for two sleepers will probably only fit sideways but haven't tested that yet. Much more floor space for sleeping if you used backpacking pads. You could probably fit two adults and two kids but it would be tight. Ideal for two people, or three even. I like the roomy vestibule, though it does have a low entrance, but big enough for a couple backpacks and footwear. Not really big enough to put two chairs in to play cards in the rain and such. Adequate, though. The design of the one up high window/vent looks okay, but I do worry about ventilation, and I would think pitching the rainfly fully staked out will aid ventilation, as many have complained about lack of air with the rainfly fully on. There are a lot of guy-lines to set it up properly which is kind of unusual, but hey it's a budget tent. The quality is still very good at this price point, and blows away tents like the Ozark Trail stuff. The tent itself is just mesh, and the rainfly is seam-taped, but I will be seam-sealing the threads on the outside of the rainfly for some extra waterproofing. Can't hurt, and if it shows a bit from overdrip so be it. They really should have sewn in a web loop in the top of the tent for a light holder, and that is an oversight. I have already attached an x-large safety pin through an unexposed portion of the top webbing to attach my tent light to, and that should work fine. You can do this without penetrating anything critical. Overall this will be a nice 3-season tent. Just get some upgraded stakes (8 at least) and roll out for some outdoor adventure. The price makes any small shortcomings non-problematic. At any price under $120, this is a nice tent.

Great for the price.

Tjbtroop November 4, 2013

Purchased 4 a few months ago for Boy Scout group. Tested them and found them to be perfect for our use, low cost, well designed and tough enough to standup for use for several years with reasonable care.

This tent is...

CalamariKing October 3, 2014

This tent worked great for its first time out. It was easy to set up, (we got it up in about 10 minutes) and had plenty of space for my wife, our large dog, and me. We did get a compliment on how different this tent looked. It didn't rain during our trip so I cannot review its weather resistance. On the other hand, it is a major pain to put away. The bag that it is packed in is too small unless you have He-man strength and a smooth surface free of rocks, leaves, or other debris on which to roll it. Also, some may think that this is a plus, it took up about 60% of the camp site. The foot print is a bit big, but as I stated before I believe this is personal preference. All in all I would recommend this to friends and family for their camping needs.

Best in its price category

Travelfans July 13, 2014

This tent is a real deal. We have used it in Alaska during our (windy and rainy) vacation and it served in every aspect. It is little bit heavier than you expect and also needs two persons to build it as fast as advertised. 1 person would take longer time.
