I'm not too handy but I could easily set this up by myself. It was also easy to pack away in its own bag. I would be using this for car camping ... not back packing, but for car camping it is not very heavy at all. IMHO all 4 person tents are actually two person tents w/ room for equipment. This has ample room for two on a rainy day. This is a great value.
I bought this tent for a weekend camping trip with my boyfriend. We had a tent before that had ripped and was extremely difficult to set up. We got to the campsite with this tent and it was set up within about 10 minutes. It will probably be even less next time now that we know what we are doing. The materials were fine for the price. I would recommend using the coleman water-proofing applicator with this tent, we used it when we first got there and there was a heavy frost that night and everything in our tent stayed dry. We used the rain fly (it's just vents on top otherwise) and it got down to about 40 at night and was windy and we were alright (bundled in sleeping bags, but warm!). The tent says 4-person but we had two people and a couple of bags and while it wasn't too small, I wouldn't want to sleep more than two if you have any bags. I will attach a few pictures below.
The tent went up pretty easy. Could probably do with just one person but obviously easier with 2. It has pretty good ventilation with the window screens. I’ve only had it out for one weekend but it was extremely windy and held up way better than expected. The poles didn’t bow at all. It won’t let me post a video but I took a screen shot and you can see where the other tent is bending from the wind and the Coleman is still completely upright.
Seen this model at varies places and went with Walmart because they had the best deal and shipped to my home. I didn't believe it would fit 2 beds inside but it will (edge to edge). You will only have room by the door to fit 2 or 3 packs & enough room to enter/exit. If you use it for 2 or 3 people, I think its best. This will give you enough room for a small chair/stool, packs , and room to enter/exit. It maybe a challenge to find a tarp because it is 10x10 but the base tent setup took well under 10mins to setup with 2 people (adults) not reading any directions. We put the rain fly on wrong so that made it a full 10mins once we realized. The rain-fly is the only real privacy you'll get with this tent but it also makes it muggy once inside because of the lack of air flow. The ground vent sounds cool but meaningless once the mattresses cover the vent; recommend you get a a fan/light combo and hang it from the loop located in the ceiling. I wish I knew it was a loop and not a clip so bring a small D-ring with you if you need to hang anything. I didn't bring my generator so didn't get to test the outlet vent but check it to be sure its closed or bugs, snakes, or etc will have a easy way into the tent should they find it. There is another version that looks the same in blue, it doesn't have the shaded windows so if you don't care you can save a few bucks by going with that one. Also recommend getting the repair kit, the poles are plastic so I felt a kid could break them if not paying attention. I did use it in a rain storm without water proofing the seams, maybe over time of usage you will want to do down the road. Good luck folding it back up and back in the bag too...
The mesh venting is key in warm weather. it allows for great air circulation. We even had a fan plugged in inside which made it very comfortable. We were able to fit a double height queen sized air mattress with plenty of room to store all of our stuff. We were able to stand up inside easily to change. We also had room for a little side table. We use a carabiner to hang a lamp and still have room to stand. I am 5‘6“ and my boyfriend is 5‘10“. We do wish that the rain fly came out a little further/longer as our camping neighbors were close and while laying in bed I can easily see over to the next camp. In order to get that good ventilation you have to have the rain fly pulled out which with the mesh venting doesn’t offer a lot of privacy. There’s no option to close the vents either. So I would imagine this tent is not good in cooler or cold weather. We didn’t experience rain so I have no idea how it would be if it rained, but I can imagine also that this might not be such a great tent in that type of situation with a lot of wind on top of it. this is a six person tent and I would say two people fit very comfortably. If you were to try to fit another mattress inside you would have zero room for any storage. with the venting I would say probably don’t want to be pressed right up against the walls as you might have moisture issues.
It is easy to setup and we stayed dry after a rainy camping evening. Because 2 of the walls have mesh, this can't be good to use during cold weather, even with the rainfly on top. There is a lot of space for up to 4 people, I'd say 6 people would be too crowded inside. Good product for the price, recommended as a 3-season family tent.
Used the new tent for the first time on a weekend camping trip. It rained over that weekend, and I had water coming through the seams. Used a microfiber towel to soak it up and by morning I had a very moist towel. I did submit a request to replace the tent - hoping it was just an issue with the one I received- no response yet.
i recommend that Noone buys this if going to use in wet weather. only had for 2 weeks and when it rains it leaks throughout the tent. i called Coleman and yes they did replace it free of charge but they told me its only water resistant. but it is labeled as water proof. i lost over $500 worth of stuff as my cell phone laptop and personal items do to it and only got a free replacement not even a upgrade. i am homeless and this is not what I was expecting
So I was excited to go camping and read some reviews and ordered this tent. I was surprised that I was able to put it together by myself. The reason is it is a one person tent! It is tall enough for me (5'8") but no one taller can stand up. The bag stated it is a 6 person. No way! It is a cute tent but it is not sturdy kinda flimsy and the fly really doesn't cover the sides if there is blowing rain. It is a good tent in good weather only. I would not recommend it though.
The front right tent pole holder (silver ring)broke on the first night I set it up. I’m not a tent expert, but I was disappointed about having to tie up something that was brand new. I liked that the tent did not leak overhead on the two rainy nights I used it, but I would not buy it again.
