This should be labled as Professional Oil Pastels

missymjh February 20, 2015

I was beyond delighted when we opened this box of "Júnior" oil pastel crayons. 48...Yes 48 stunning professional colors...Though they are as small as crayons, crayons they are not! These are all real oil pastels in vibrant colors to delight any artsist of any talent. I have taken art classes and for school my girls have taken art. Always I have passed these over because of the wording Junior..Never again! They're vibrant colors shine and blend well. They can be both soft yet still keep the lines you need from oil pastels. Immediately I had to draw with them I was so attracted to the colors and the crayon size does not change the size of drawing. Actually the size of these makes for more detailed art work that normal pastels do not. If you want Color and Professional Quality These are the Oil Pastels for you.

oil pastels

missgoof February 25, 2015

I selected these crayons for my granddaughter. She loves the product. It comes with 50 sticks. 48 pastel colors plus and extra white and black color. The crayons are 2-1/2" long. The colors not only have the regular "pastel" colors but additional pastels that are darker in color. This is great for shading/blending. The texture is very nice. The only thing that she didn't like about it was the fact that the crayons itself didn't have a point to them. They come flat. The colors even though they are pastel, are very vibrant. These crayons are also oil based.

Rainbow of colors

memynameicallmyself February 15, 2015

This review is for the Sakura Cray Pas Junior Artist Pack, set of 50 student quality oil pastels sticks. There are 48 assorted colors and an extra black and an extra white pastel stick. Here are some of the colors in the box of oil pastel sticks: Blue Green Red Orange Yellow Black Gray White Silver Gold Brown Purple Pink Peach There are several different shades on lots of the colors. These oil pastel sticks glide across the paper. They are very easy to use. The oil pastel sticks make kind of a thick line when you use them. We tried them out on regular copy paper and the colors did smear a little bit. I am not sure if they would smear like that if you were to use them on another type of paper such as watercolor paper, art paper, construction paper, canvas, or any other type of art papers that are available. I love the beautiful colors and how rich they look on the drawing. The colors are very vibrant and deep in color. I gave the Sakura Cray Pas Junior Artist student quality oil pastel 50 count set 5 stars. I am very pleased with the quality and the awesome colors in this set. Just think of all the amazing pictures your children or grandchildren can make with these oil pastels. You could even use them yourself. Make a family art night, get your paper out, your oil pastels, and make memories together. Draw and color pictures of your family, home, favorite cartoons, flowers, hearts, or whatever makes you happy. You can't go wrong with this set. Enjoy!!!

Sakura Cray Pas Jr Artist Pack Oil Pastels

catzmeeeow March 2, 2015

I was very excited to receive these oil pastels. My other oil pastels are more than 20 years old and it was time to get some new ones. I have used the pastels on watercolor paper, canvas paper, and also on wood with my wood burning tool. They worked well with all of these media. Excellent color choices. They do blend fairly easily. I combined a couple of colors to achieve good hues on an art doll face on watercolor paper. They overlay and blended pretty well for basic face shapes that did not require a lot of detail. Non-toxic. No heavy oil paint-type smells like my old ones. Perfect for young artists or adults who are just beginning. I have not used oil pastels in years but found them to be fun and interesting to blend colors to make custom shades. But remember that they should not be used on fabrics and cannot be washed. Less sloppy than paints or pastel chalks. I'm still experimenting with other use in multi-media projects. Not terribly sturdy and will break if you press too hard. Still, they are great for small hands and would be an excellent addition to a classroom environment, after school activity, or home. We need more artists. Look at the sunset and then use these to blend the beautiful colors you see with your eyes. Put down the game, put down the remote control, turn off the computer, and let imaginations run wild. Get out some paper & a pack of pastels and create wonderful works of art. I would recommend.

Awesome colors & box

Skahahah February 28, 2015

Sakura Cray Junior Artist Pack is an amazing set of 'oil pastels'. There are so many colors (48 white extra black & white). The box seems very sturdy & great to keep them organized. This is the first set of 'oil pastels' for my family, my children are too young to do anything 'artsy /fancy' with these We just have been using them as crayons. My son (5 yrs old) loves them because when he colors in things its a very 'solid' color (meaning you cant see lines like you can when color with crayons) He actually discovered how to blend/ mix colors... We have enjoyed playing /coloring with these. We have used them on construction paper, copy paper as well as coloring books, with no problems. Other reviews mentioned smearing but I did not notice any on the different papers we used, and my son was coloring 'solid' (not sure how to word it) The only thing I didn't care for (which may be normal for 'oil pastels') is they are not 'sharpened' both ends are straight, we only use them for coloring, but after you use it for a bit turn to other side & use & you quickly give yourself a 'sharpened' tip. Im not sure how you normally use 'oil pastels' but I recommend them just for coloring & drawing. The way it colors so 'solid' is amazing!

Good for the budding artist

Salesavvymom February 20, 2015

I like the Sakura Cray Pas Junior Artist Pack. The colors are very vibrant. It does state on the box and on each cray pas that these are "student quality oil pastels". There are 48 different colors, an additional black and an additional white. The colors are very pretty. There are 6 different shades of green, 4 different shades of yellow, 4 shades of red, 3 shades of orange, 3 shades green-blue, 7 shades of blue, 5 shades of purple, 2 shades of pink, 2 shades of peach, 5 shades of brown, 2 shades of gray, 2 blacks, 2 whites, 1 silver, 1 gold and 1 cream. My daughter used them to sketch on sketch paper. There was little to no smearing. The color is bright and vibrant on the paper. The texture or smoothness of going on the paper is between an oil pastel and a crayon. The color is certainly more vibrant than a crayon. Make sure not to apply too much pressure, as my daughter did snap one in half the first time it was used. She was able to tape it back together easily.

Not really for Little Kids

TheBargainHuntress June 4, 2015

I originally thought this would be a great product for my child, but this is not for kids play. But for the true artist. it contains many great colors and can easily blend with one another. I can see a kid or teenage artist using these. I got this for my 4 year old and it was not a smart move. It is messy. So for a kid who is just learning, this is not a good buy. They are not like regular crayons. The colors in the picture are so pretty, however. It comes well packaged and in a nice organized box. The color sticks are relatively small, so I am not sure how much life one would get out of this set. I suppose it depends on how often you use them. It comes with 50 colors so you get quite a good amount. Again, I just would not recommend for young children, unless they are an art prodigy. My son is just working out how to draw circles and color, so this was not the best pick for him. Not smart on my part. I will have to sick with Crayola for now. I still would recommend this to an artistic friend or talented young kids/teens. .

ok

these are a good value, but I gave 4 stars, because for the same value you can get the Pentel set , which has a better blending texture and more diverse colors. I was a little disappointed that many of the colors in this set were extremely similar in shade. Also the pentel label each pastel with its color and Cray-Pas did not....which was inconvenient. But overal a good product.

Nice oil pastels set for a beginner

Sue811 February 16, 2015

Sakura Cras-pas Junior Artest Student Quality Oil Pastels the set has 50 sticks, 48 colors plus an extra black and an extra white. The set does have a nice variety of colors. They are a good size for smaller hands. Three people have used them in my home. My daughter in law, my two year old grand daughter and myself. We have tried a variety of types of paper, from a coloring book, drawing paper, to sketching paper. I did not like how it did on coloring book paper, the drawing paper was a little better, but out of the three the sketching paper was the best. I think it would probably work better for art canvas board, that is something I want to try. One of the features is that it does not make a big mess, meaning they do not smear a lot and clean up easily. I have a few suggestions, one you should put a meant for such and such age group, two, it is toxic or non-toxic, three, maybe sell it in a kit including artist paper, or a list of best with this kind of paper. Would I recommend this to my family and or friends, yes especially if they have younger age pre-teens or maybe a little older, it would give them a very nice set of oil pastels to start with, especially someone who loves art.

Great

tricia35 February 26, 2015

I got these pasteles to review and I have found them to be better than crayons. my son loves to draw and paint and this is the ideal thing for him. I just set him up with the pastels and a large sketch pad and he's set. I myself have found that I like using them also so we make it a mom and son thing to do. This is definitely a recommend to friends.
