My ten-year-old bought this with her own money so she could make mini donuts. I've always had a really hard time giving her the freedom to cook on her own because of the messes and my concerns about her burning the house down because she's forgetful. But she was so excited about this little contraption that she has been super responsible with it. She has made at least five batches of mini donuts with it so far. It comes with a little book of recipes, a whole bunch of them. We haven't ended up using any of them except as a guide for cooking time. We have used the frosting recipes, and they're decent. The donut maker doesn't tend to heat super evenly, so if you leave the donuts cooking too long, they burn. But if you're careful, they come out great. My daughter has experimented with cake mix and muffin mix, and muffin mix works better by far. Cake mix doesn't seem to rise enough before it burns. All the neighborhood kids love it because she's always making them donuts. The one thing I'd change is that the molds/plates should come out for more thorough washing. They don't currently, as far as I know.

My husband was able to whip himself up a batch of mini donuts pretty quickly and my kitchen didn't look like a disaster afterwards because the machine could be wiped clean and the ingredients were simple and easily combined into a single bowl. He's already looking forward to making a batch of chocolate donuts in the handy recipe book included.

We made mini pancake-doughnuts this morning for breakfast. The only thing I can say is I wish they would cook through so I don't have to flip them but we will try them with cake batter next time to see if there's a difference. I have used it in the past and I believe it's pretty good. However, we lost the instruction manual so we printed it from “ bydash.com”. On the document, It says a boxed “?” for cocoa powder. How much cocoa powder is needed for the chocolate donuts?

Cute idea but.... They don't turn out like regular donuts. The plain ones I bagged up and they had a decent flavor. Really wanted the apple cider ones. They would have been great, (I tasted the batter) They would not cook all the way through without burning the whole outside. I have given up. Kudos to those that were able to make it work. I could not. Giving it to the thrift store.
