I put this in place yesterday, did laundry load, furnace did not run for over 4 hrs after one load, house went from 66 to 73 degrees, and humidifier shut down. I had one of these years ago, and it saved MONEY on propane,
can use this to vent inside during the winter to take advantage of dryer heat, vent to outside in the summer
Works great.. no issues.. I didn't even think this was an actual thing ha ha will definitely buy again
I like that this really works and I enjoy the extra heat.
works as it should
Had to repair my dryer. The venting system clogged up and caused damage to the dryer (blew a safety fuse). So since I had the washer and dryer moved around I decided to do other things that needed to be done (painting, replacing venting system, etc.) while waiting for the part to repair dryer. I had been looking at dryer heat exchangers like indoor vent systems where the piping feeds into a box with water that sits on top of the dryer or a shelf. Really disliked that idea due to having to switch from the filter box in winter to outside vent in summer plus having to block off the outside vent when using the box. Then I saw the Deflecto extra heat and thought that would be perfect and it was. With a simple flip of a lever you go from outside to inside venting. I did read of a reveiw where it was stated the product was flimsy plastic. It is plastic but not severly fragile. Really does not have to be super strong with it being out of the way as shown in the photo. It is secured to a wood block glued to the concrete wall by drilling 2 holes through the back of the box using wood screws and is within easy reach to operate and clean. Mounting to a wall is not a must because the Deflecto is light enough to just hang loose in the vent pipe. The other complaint was that the flap does not close completely. True when closed you can feel a slight amount of air but the air pressure when the dryer is running keeps the flap closed pretty tight or fully open. Other benefits is that not only does it add heat to your house but it adds much needed humidity that your furnace sucks out of the air and adds air freshening fragrance from your laundry detergent or fabric softener. The photo also shows another box under the Deflecto which is the Proclean inline vent trap. I added it because the outside vent discharges right where my air conditioner is outside. I had to clean the a/c condenser coil every season which got clogged with lint that gets past the dryer vent screen. The lint trap is not necessary but is in my situation. This combo works great for me.
The product is a quality product that does exactly what it is supposed to do. The unforeseen consequence is the amount of dust throughout our home since the installation.
It performs as expected. We wanted recirculation of the hot air from the dryer. Why heat outside ! Warms the basement while the dryer runs. The flap closes for summer when you do want the hot air pushed out.
This Deflecto heat saver works great, just as it should. We have had one in both houses that we've lived in, with our laundry room being in the basement. It adds heat back into the room, which eventually makes it's way upstairs. Great for use in the dry, cold winter months. I use fabric softener sheets in the dryer, and the Deflecto makes the house smell good, too. My husband was able to install it, fairly easily.
This is a simple device, not complicated, passive deflection of heat and moisture from the dryer into the room or outdoors. The flap that deflects doesn't snap into place, so it's a bit floppy, but it's fine for the purpose.
