[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We loved this cookie bar kit. It was easy to make and tasted great! There wasn't as much frosting as pictured, but it was plenty enough to provide the perfect amount of sweetness! The chocolate cookie was my favorite part!
These are delicious IF you pay attention to the directions! Bake until center is JUST SET, not completely done. These, like any bar/brownie, continue baking after they are removed from the oven, and they will be dry and overbaked if they are left in until done. I love the frosting, and have purchased it separately many times. The "gritty" texture is undissolved sugar...you know, like eating raw cookie dough? Exactly the same. That's what it is trying to mimic. If you fuss with it too much, the chocolate "chips" blend into the frosting. Honestly, the complaints about this stemming from the inability to follow directions and incorrect assumptions are astounding to me. It's delicious.
These were great. The only real complaint was the frosting; it was kind of greasy and very sweet. The bars didn't really need them, IMHO, but my husband liked it. They're more like a dense cake than a cookie, which is fine. I'm not sure why other commenters found them dry. I'll buy these again.
Again I really enjoyed the flavors of the cookie bar. However, I was disappointed with a few things 1. The final product didn't look as pictured. The cookie dough topping is tan without chocolate chip pieces. 2. The mix didn't fill the pan size recommended 3. The mix required increased time to cook thoroughly (I guess that's related to different ovens, so not much they can do about that). Therefore dough turns out a little dry 4. Way too much butter needed 50/50 on if I would buy again. Would likely just make my own version
I really loved the idea of this kit, especially the picture, but the result did not taste like cookie bars at all but 2 layers of cake. The chocolate layer turned out larger than the bottom layer, both tasted like regular cake mixes. The cookie dough layer turned out to taste like an artificially flavored frosting that did not look or taste appealing.
It's flavorless. All you taste is the sugar. There's no notable difference in taste between the sugar cookie layer and the chocolate cookie layer and the “cookie dough” icing. It's just all overwhelmingly sweet with no discernible flavor.
Would not buy again. Tasted awful
This was a huge fail for me I bought 28 boxes thinking it was going be moist fill flavor but I was wrong it's tasteless. It's really dry and the dough frosting its just chocolate frosting and the frosting also feels sandy in your mouth I will highly recommend at all. Now I'm Stuck With 27 boxes and don't know what to do with them..
They may look fun but please stay away!!! They are very dry, the ‘cookie dough' frosting taste like dough without chocolate chips, the sugar cookie taste like butter. I really hoped that these would work but they didn't. I love any other product from Duncan Hines just not this one!!!Sorry!
I made it exactly as it says on the box. The bottom cake is dry (I did not overcook). The top frosting (which looks like a cookie on the front of the box) barely covers the top of the brownie (photo looks like it's a quarter inch thick) and it has NO (as in zero) chocolate chips in it. Overall the taste was overly sweet on top and dry on bottom.
