I would definitely recommend this product to fill up your vegetable bed. you will need to add fertilizer since this doesn't have any but when you need about 65 bags of topsoil, this works wonderfully. Great price.
The Earthgro top soil is an excellent base product to use for gardening. I have purchased from WalMart and Home Depot well over 100 bags for my raised bed gardens, pallet gardens and otyher various yard projects. I add composted manure, ground up egg shells, homemade compost and coco coir and have had super successful plantings in south central Florida area. WE have terrible soil in the rural sub-division I live in. Weeds grow great, but nothing else unless augmented. I find that it is consistent in quality and contains little to no rocks, twigs grass etc. Rotating plantings help maintain the quality of the soil season after season with nutrient replenishing.
Good product for small fill-in jobs. It's is real dirt…not wood chips. Available at HD for $2.00/bag.
This topsoil was mostly mulch! I was hoping it would have more soil but was disappointed!!
This stuff is junk! Would be best served as pavers for a walk way. For 5cents a bag more you get get a 100% better quality. This stuff is full of rocks, wood CHUNKS and other junk!
returned item it was not as described
WAY over priced. Same stuff (different brand)is in the store, during season for $1.87 (my local store, this past Spring). I have no idea why I purchased this at $40 a bag! I honestly must have been half asleep.
Size says 60. I received 1 bag today for $50!!!
I've been around dirt for quite awhile now but this stuff is more like asphalt. In fact I have seen asphalt that crumbles easier than this stuff. I thought about using this stuff for paving a driveway. I am not kidding, when I cut open the bags, it comes out in 3-4 big hard clumps. In some cases it is almost one solid clump. I thought that they all could not be that way, so I kept opening bag after bag. When I got to the last bag, I knew I had been taken. Now I'm stuck with these big clumps laying in my yard. I had to break them up so I tried different lawn tools and tough work. I then watered and watered the clumps while using a heavy rake to break them up. Eventually ending up with a mud like substance. Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY this stuff, you will definitely regret it.
Should be called "Earthgro MULCH, ROCKS, STICKS, AND A TINY BIT OF SOIL TOSSED IN JUST FOR KICKS" If it's screened topsoil (and I don't think it is) they're using a screen made with 6 inch squares. Don't believe me? Buy 1 bag and spread it over your driveway and see how big of a pile of debris you can pick from it. Do yourself a favor if you want bags of cheap DIRT -- Go to that Orange store and get their brand.
