Today I received my order, expert gardener organic top soil shown in the picture. I was very pleased with the quality and the size bag of top soil that I received, and the most exciting thing was the price for one bag you can’t go wrong with great value. Walmart a team and the seller, thank for great customer service.
I've used Expert Gardener topsoil before, and out of 8 bags this time, every single one was completely free of rocks and random debris, no large sticks or surprises like in past bad batches. It's hands down the best topsoil I've bought at such a cheap price point, perfect for my gardening and yard filler projects.
For true weed-pullin', bug-battlin', hose-draggin' backyard gardener or hobby farmers, “dirt” is a dirty word! No, we who crave real “dirt therapy” actually use “soil” for our dirty garden endeavors. This Expert Gardeners Organic Topsoil is going in my raised garden beds - mostly large black storage totes that I recycle for my garden after my spouse's business discards the damaged/cracked crates. The cracks provide the drainage, I put two or three empty gallon milk jugs to take up some space, then add a minimum of two of these bags of Organic Topsoil to fill about two thirds of my new raised garden bed. Then I will add some other amendments such as Black Kow manure, coco coir, and my own compost to another bag of the Expert Gardeners Organic Topsoil mixed together for the top third of my new raised garden bed. This Organic Topsoil smells good - rich, earthy - when you open the bag. When I ran my fingers through the Topsoil it felt soft and spongy, like it would retain moisture - as well as nutrients where the plants' roots can suck them in! So, that's the dirt on Expert Gardeners Organic Topsoil … use it y'all … it's great for true gardening dirt therapy!
Very good for the price. I don't think some of the reviews are being honest about the quality of this topsoil. I bought it to add to my tortoise house and it's pretty perfect for what I needed. No foreign objects like others are saying. The things you'll see in my picture are parts of what was already in Charlie's house. I just added a bag of the topsoil.
This is a great affordable peat free topsoil. As the industry uses far more peat than can be regenerated (it takes a really long time for peat to form), it is better for the environment to use as little as possible in one's garden. This is a good quality topsoil. You can add soil amendments to it as well.
have not used yet but bag is super heavy compared to a variety of different brands ( 4 different ones) purchased to compare to all different types to (will mix all together) (for my spring gardening), started my seeds indoors, they are ready to plant now, we will see how good they all are, when I mix them all together
mostly sand and woodchip compost.. not dark like topsoil should be. the sand and chip compost are great for the raised bed garden, but they also need real topsoil.. i had to buy real topsoil from a Wal-Mart competitor.. Wal-Mart buyers are smart and knowledgeable but are also profit minded for Wal-Mart.. this mixture is cheap to produce.
All 8 bags were not soil but were mulch of small and average chunks. It is still laying on our lawn as not absorbed since there is no soil like someone else's Feb. order. We also ordered Expert Gardener mulch which was too large of chunks and not standard pieces of mulch so this "top soil" was actually more like the mulch should have been. I also think bags were mixed and top soil actually was mulch.
I have purchased this top soil before for the yard and was greatly satisfied with the soil mixture, the color and the smell. However this bag arrived smelling moldy, looks moldy and appears to be mulch. So much for my lawn. Could they have put this in the wrong bag?? Possibly .. hopefully?
The bag specifically states 100% topsoil but it is filled with a dirt/mulch mixture. For the price you 'get what you paid for' and for the use I got it for it was okay. But it remains to be seen if there's even enough dirt in it to grow grass. I would not recommend it for an area that you want to look really great like a front yard. All of mine went behind a shed!
