I ordered the Faberware Edgekeeper 8" Chef Knife to skin and slice cantaloupe and vegetables. So, as soon a I received this knife, I had to try it out. After I cleaned it, I got started. I had a fresh cantaloupe ready to go. The Faberware Edgekeeper 8" Chef Knife helped me make quick work of it. I cut it into 8 pieces and then proceeded to remove the skin. I just placed the knife on the end of the skin and slid the knife right along cutting the skin off cleanly without loosing any of the fruit. I didn't have to slide it back and forth with the blade it slid smoothly right through it! I absolutely love The Faberware Edgekeeper 8" Chef Knife and the Self-Sharpening Sheath really works! I can't wait for Thanksgiving to carve the turkey with it!!
Haven't had this knife very long but it does seem to stay very sharp. Just remember to wipe the blade off each time you pull it out of the sheath. The function of sharpening the blade could leave metal shavings on the blade. The knife it's self is well balanced and a good shape for my uses.
What a great knife. It is comfortable to use and works very well and the self-sharpening sheath is great. I use it all of the time.
this knife is very sharp it will shave hair and with the self sharpening sheath it keeps a very sharp blade it cuts threw meat or anything u need to cut i would recommend to anyone that need a sharp kitchen knife
This 8 chef knife is a must not only for chefs but for regular family members. The best thing is it will never get dull.Being a chef this is one high quality knfe you will never need another oneI have had similar knves but this ones is tops on my list and everytime you put away or take out it is sharp and ready to cut.Hats off to farberare you hit a home run with this product.thank you
I can not believe the price. I have purchased in the past very expensive Germany knives and I am more than a little upset with myself that I have spent far too much money when I could have just purchased this knife. I cook everyday and having a good knife is so important. This knife is well balanced and sharp. I chopped garlic, tomatoes, cut up a whole chicken and sliced a frozen pizza-it worked great. The self sharpening device I hope will live up to my expectations. Would I recommend this product most definitely
I've been using the new "Farberware Edgekeeper" kitchen knife. It's an 8" chef knife with a built-in sharpener. It's high carbon steel with a handle that's designed for comfort and it has a lifetime warranty. the sharpener is in the sleeve, the knife is sharpened every time you remove and insert the knife into the sleeve. I was please to find that it works pretty well. I do a lot of cooking and it seems I'm always having to sharpen my knife. this Idea seems to be a good one, I've had the knife about a week and I have used it quit a lot. you do have to hold the knife at a certain angle when inserting it into the sleeve. over all I think it is a good product and well worth a try.
My first impression of this knife and sheath combo was its sleek style. The red and black colors of the knife compliment the wood finish in my kitchen very nicely. At first I had a few seconds of struggle releasing the knife from the sheath because the knife arrived already inside the sheath. When I pulled up slightly with the knife it instantly released itself from the sheath. So, I learned quickly that to sharpen you pull straight back or press drown slight, and to release the knife pull up. The first thing I cut with the knife was a pineapple and the knife did not disappoint me. It was light and sharp. I felt like an instant chef! I have only had this knife for less then a month but so far I'm in love!
Here is my take on the Farberware Edgekeeper 8" Chef Knife with Self-Sharpening Sheath. It is a good all around knife but with some pesky quirks. If you can live with the quirks, you have a great chef knife here. First, the good stuff... This knife has a durable high carbon stainless steel blade well suited for most of the domestic cutting tasks you'll have to do in any home kitchen. The self sharpening feature seems a unique and convenient add on. The sheath is solid and not bulky so the knife lays flat taking up very little drawer space. The slight shortcomings... I find the poly plastic handle (although durable) is very light, throwing off the balance of the knife slightly, making it blade heavy. The result is you meet a bit more resistance cutting than you otherwise would. The blade itself is very good and sharp enough to do required cutting tasks, but high speed cutting and or prolonged cutting tasks will fatigue your hand a bit faster because of this imbalance...That said, if your cutting tasks are not cumbersome, this knife will do the trick. This next thing may be a personal bias, but I was also not thrilled with the self sharpening via the built-in knife sharpener fitted into the sheath. I found it makes the removal of the knife from the sheath difficult with the knife first being stuck and then suddenly jerking out of the sheath...Not the safest type of release for my books...Re-insertion is no problem. I do question whether a single stroke insertion is enough to keep the knife sharp, but so far so good. Conclusion... In summary, this is not a bad knife for the relatively low price and it will get your home kitchen cutting tasks done efficiently...If you don't mind a bit of a struggle with removing the knife from its sheath or a light (albeit strong) handle, this knife could be for you. However if your cutting tasks are frequent of voluminous, you might want to consider spending a little more and passing on this one.
The sheath really does keep this knife sharp. Light in weight, ease of use makes this knife a great "first knife". A more proficient chef will find it too lightweight and not of higher quality. I like that it can just be thrown into my kitchen utility drawer without fear of cutting myself while searching for something else. Farberware has always been a name that you can trust with a variety of reasonably priced cooking implements.
