I just bought this this year. It's does save me a lot of time and effort. as the older individual, I would recommend it for ease of use. And creating your baked goods
This cookie scoop does not work well with a stiff cookie dough. I finally gave up while making my grandmothers sugar cookies. After I mix all the ingredients, I refrigerate the dough for at least a couple of hours to make it easier to work with, but the scoop would not release the dough as it was supposed to. Its also smaller than I expected.
There is a large gap between the inside back of the scoop and the hoop. So when you go to release the dough, it does not release cleanly. Dough gets sliced through and it all gets stuck. With chilled dough this is problematic, causing the device to slip gears. A poorly constructed tool and I will try a different brand.
I was so excited to try out this when making cookies this week. The gear that controls the mechanism to flip the dough out of the scoop was off track when I opened it. Every time I squeezed the scoop to remove the dough it would get back off track. I cut my finger pretty bad trying to fix it and finally threw the whole thing in the garbage. What was intended to save time ended up making the process more difficult. I would spend the extra money and go with a more reliable brand.
It's not as sturdy as I thought it would be. Also the action of the scooping mechanism is janky, doesn't seem like it could scoop stiffer cookie doughs. I tried it with cold butter and it made a mess. The butter was softened a bit but it didn't seem to help/ cheaply made
This scoop was terrible. It would only spin half way around. I'd return it, but ended up throwing it away out of frustration while trying to make cookies. I'll never buy Farberware anything ever again.
I've bought this item twice. I use them as cookie scoops. The first scoop lasted years before it broke -the releasing mechanism popped out and the gears became loose. The second purchase broke during the first use, exact same problem. Clearly, as with everything else these days, they don't make ‘em like they used to. This was a complete waste of money. I should have gone with Oxo to begin with.
Did not work well for cookie dough. The dough would just stick in it. The mechanism to release the dough does not fit the shape of the scoop and leaves a gap when sweeping around, leaving a lot of dough behind. It broke with the first use and is now in the garbage. A waste of money. A spoon and hand balling works much better and faster than this did.
I wanted to love this scoop...I ordered via pickup, so I didn't have the opportunity to have this scoop in my hand until I arrived home. It is not very smooth in operation. The gear often "jams" up, as the "teeth" seem to not align just right...which makes the release a bit aggravating. Unfortunately, I will be looking for another scoop very soon. My local store only had this scoop %26 an "off brand" one in stock, so I figured the Farberware one was the better quality %26 spent extra money on it...but fairly confident I'd be just as satisfied with the cheaper one. I will use this one until I find a better one...but would certainly not recommend it!
