I'm replacing the detectors in my home that I've had since **** with the same brand and style unit. Finding them here was great, but it'd been faster if I just bought them in store instead of having to wait for pickup outside. Never want to do that again.
I like this smoke alarm a lot. It comes with a battery which is nice and is easy to mount. The alarm is very loud, and the built in light is very bright. I pray I never need to experience this alarm in action but when I tested it it was great. My neighbors heard it and came to check if everything was ok, so when I say its loud.. its loud.
I had five of these units in my house. When the old units expired after 10 years, I replaced them with the same kind. The batteries are easy to change. The alarm is extremely loud, which is a good thing in a real emergency. I liked the old units so much that I ordered the same kind as replacements and expect them to last through the 10-year expiration as well.
I had an old outdated smoke detector that died and replaced it with this one. The bases were of a different size but it was easy to remove the old base and use the existing screws to install this one.
I trust first alert it's a great product, always lead up to their name! Need a product that you know will work!
This product arrived sooner than expected and all 3 works .now I can take the the ones dated 1982 down off the wall and feel safer in the home. The little lite on these new smoke detectors isn't real brite but it will give some idea where you are in a smoke filled room. The price is good too.
I keep two alarms in my house, one in the hallway by the bedrooms and one in the kitchen. For years I've had another alarm in my kitchen, and it worked fine. Then I thought I'd change brands and purchase this one. It seems that every time I cooked with hot oil (like frying) the alarm sounded. Any little amount of heat from cooking oil set off the alarm. I cook with olive oil which has a high tolerance level to heat, so it hardly ever gives off any smoke. Yet this alarm started shrilling loudly, the escape light went off, and it was hard to silence even after the source of the heat was removed. I thought of moving the alarm out of the kitchen, but it broke. It simply would no longer work even after the battery was replaced. The battery tester didn't work even after I tried three different new batteries in it. It was simply broken in less than a month. I'm replacing this alarm, but with a different brand.
Just a smoke alarm - right ? What could be wrong with it? ? Well, it doesn't work ! My son-in-law came to look at, and we put in the battery that comes with it. The light was quite dim, obviously not right. So I got a new battery from my own supply, it just didn't work. So it must be faulty. I had to tear up the 'bubble wrap' covering to open it, so I guess I'll just not send it back. Now I realize that not all of the alarms ordered would be this way - I just got a bad one. Probably 1 in 100.
Bought 2 over these and soon as I put battery in the escape light stayed on and alam did not work. These never worked so I packed them up and returned them.
This was purchased less than 3 months ago and is already malfunctioning! It constantly beeps every 2 minutes. Do not purchase this item. I thought that First alert was a reputable company but I was absolutely wrong! I am now without a smoke detector until I get a chance to purchase a new one. That is not safe
