The Fiskars Easy Action 5 Micro-Tip Scissors are a great tool in the sewing room and the laundry room. They are very sharp and easy to use. In the sewing room, they cut threads and fabrics (I used mine to remove fraying from a towel) and in the laundry, they are small enough to keep in a small sewing kit for those stray threads on shirts and pants.
These are awesome little scissors. I am currently reupholstering a chair as well as making cushion covers for a set of outdoor furniture. These snips are super handy. They are really sharp, they fit really well in your hand (I have bad arthritis) and they can snip all those tiny threads and pieces where regular scissors get big and clunky. I personally would not cut out patterns or anything like that, simply because of the state of my hands, but these are definitely sharp enough and could easily cut out patterns if you wanted to. The grip fits in the nooks of your hand really well and make it really easy to squeeze the handles which move smoothly and very easily. The only small scissors I own are embroidery scissors which are good for threads and not much else. These take the size of those but take it up to a much higher level. These are sturdy, strong and I am very pleased with them. I have tried them on just about every type of material from canvas, denim, upholstery, duck cloth, silk, flannel, fleece, batting and even sherpa. They worked like a charm. They will be in my everyday box. Another bonus is they have a little tab to slide and lock them shut. The only thing that would make them even better is if they had a little something to slide over the tip while not being used. The tip is pretty pointed so a cover would be nice to protect the point as well other stuff being housed nearby from getting poked. Just a suggestion. Overall, I love them.
My usual default option for yarn-snipping scissors are the cheap pointed-tip children's scissors in the school supplies aisle at my local Walmart, which are OK, but not very sharp, so my yarn ends often look a bit raggedy from multiple snip attempts with cheap, dull kid's scissors. Therefore, I was looking forward to something specifically intended for cutting yarn and fabric, especially since the Fiskars Easy Action Micro-Tip Scissors were described as being ergonomic, too. I didn't bother reading most of the instructions on the back of the blister-pack packaging of these Fiskars scissors, although I did notice an advisory on the front that these were NOT intended for cutting paper (which would dull nice scissors like these). I immediately started using the Fiskars scissors to cut the yarn as I finished each granny square in a current crochet afghan project (as well as for trimming poking-out bits of yarn ends from previous rounds). They worked great! One slides down a grey clasp in the middle, which releases the 2 handles (just like a pair of kitchen tongs), gently squeezes the 2 handles (very little hand strength required), and then slides the clasp back up when one is done cutting. (I did learn the hard way that, if one leaves these scissors lying open for several hours, it becomes rather tricky to get the scissors closed again; sliding the clasp up and down while the scissors are open seems to loosen it enough so that it works again when the handles are squeezed shut again, though.) To test the Fiskars scissors' performance on fabric and thread, I grabbed a couple of rags (repurposed worn-out clothes) from a kitchen drawer. I was easily able to snip through elastic, leg hems and fabric on an old pair of my spouse's cotton knit briefs. I then tried cutting through various bits of a stained-beyond-salvaging men's dress shirt. I had no problems snipping through the fabric, the thin bottom hem, or even the corner of the collar (with built-in flat plastic "boning" inside the fabric to keep the collar corners stiff and pointy). Slightly more effort was required to cut into the buttonhole placket (something one might have to do while making buttonholes) or the cuffs. The trickiest bit was snipping off one of the spare buttons sewn on towards the bottom of one edge of the shirt; however, 2 snips sufficed to snip all of the thread holding the button on, with far more precision than a large pair of fabric shears, and much more neatly than a seam ripper would have done. The short blades on these scissors mean that you will still want to use your fabric shears or cutting wheel to most large-scale fabric cutting, and you may struggle a bit trying to snip through super-bulky or jumbo yarns. The very sharp blades also mean that you will only have children using these under close adult supervision -- and teenagers should demonstrate adult levels of carefulness with precision tools before being gifted their own pair. Bearing those points in mind, however, the comfortable handle grips and the minimal hand strength required for use make these Fiskars Easy Action Micro-Tip Scissors a great ergonomic choice for crafters striving to preserve hand health and extend their enjoyment of favorite crafts. Highly recommended!
I like the size of the handle and the blades. I have small hands and the handles fit really well. the blades are really good for cutting out details. super sharp! love the pointed tips! I'm sure the color is for branding purposes, but I wish they were black and blue instead of orange and grey. but honestly, that makes them super easy to find in my craft mess!
I received these as part of a promotion for my honest opinion about the product. I actually love them. They are so easy to use and feel comfortable in your hand. They fit in tight spaces and are so precise. They are perfect for sewing or really any type of craft. If you do enjoy sewing or crafting you will love these. I wish I had them years ago!! Do yourself a favor and buy them. It will make your project much easier, more enjoyable and pleasant.
These are just the little clippers I was looking for. I usually only use antique scissors that I can sharpen myself, but that isn't really an option for finding a really good pair of fine detail scissors. I have already used these for a number of tasks related to clothing repair and flower cutting. These scissors are so sharp that I can get fine details with absolutely no trouble at all. I was even able to use the incredibly fine point to spread individual linen threads apart to run an upholstery needle and yarn through without having to cut the fabric. I really can't overstate how fine the tolerances are and that was the most surprising thing for me coming from a mass market brand like fiskars. I would definitely recommend putting some fine machine lubricant on the hinge and spring if you want to be using them for extended periods of use and still expect them to last. Going to be using these puppies probably every day until they wear out. I would recommend these to anyone in the hobbyist florist or seamstress markets. You won't be disappointed, I was prepared to be, but was very impressed by the product overall.
My wife loves these scissors. My wife is into doing a bit of embroidery and was excited to get these little guys. She wanted a nice set of scissors to use when doing her needle work and these work out just great for her. They are very sharp and can get into tight areas when she needs to. She really likes that they are spring loaded and that they are not hard to use. My wife has very little strength in her hands due to health issues and she can use these with no problems. She also likes that the scissors can be locked shut so she does not get cut on them when they are in her sewing basket. The only thing that would be nice for them would be a cover to cover the blade when not in use and in her sewing basket. The tip is very sharp, and a cover would be a nice addition to these scissors. Overall, I will have to say that these are great scissors for any sewing project and would be a great addition to any sewing kit. Definitely would recommend these to anyone needing a good sharp set of scissors that can get into tight areas easily.
The risk at fabric shears are very sharp and easy to cut material it has a smooth cut and could cut thru multiple layers of fabric. Since the scissors have such a sharp tip, it should have a protective sleeves so the scissors would not stick or cut someone not in use. That would be a good feature. The stainless steel blade is hard and don't seem to brake easy. The open and close mechanism should be metal not plastic, due to the plastic would break faster than metal. The feature is great so that the scissors lock to prevent accidental cuts. The handle is smooth and good for someone with fat hands. You don't have to worry about putting your fingers thru the holes to cut. It's a simple open and close motion which is easier for cutting fabric u would need to purchase. Longer scissors for longer cutting strokes and don't have to make smaller cuts. Overall the fiskar fabric scissors are a good brand of scissors, and can pass the test of a good pair of scissors. Overall I would rate it as a very good item to have, and I would recommend this brand to my family and friends. I get it four stars....
Oh, do I love these Fiskars Micro-Tip Scissors! They are really great scissors designed to be just for fabric. I love to sew, and am always in the middle of some fun project for the kids. It always seems to be such a chore to cut fabric precisely when I'm working with chiffon, silks, and nylon. I am so impressed with these scissors! The micro-tip is so sharp, and it cuts through the fabric so easily. I am making some toys for my daughter, and with fabric, I wanted to cut out different designs with different materials. I couldn't believe how well these little scissors cut through the different materials so easily. It was so easy! I decided to make one-sided puffy alphabet letters for my daughters room. I had so much confidence in these scissors, they can make inside cuts sharp and accurately I can cut out the most difficult design and these scissors cut perfectly, even burlap. These are the best scissors I have every used for fabrics. These are so perfect for all my fabric projects.
The fiskar fabric shears are very sharp and made to cut easy when cutting thru fabric. I sew alot, but I'm not a professional, and I am impressed with the fiskar fabric shears. I have used a lot of different type of shears and I find that the fiskar shears has a good soft grip handle and can cut thru multiple layers of fabric. It cut thru blue jean material as well as leather, which we all know is tough materialy like a breeze. When I used the fiskar fabric shears to cut delicate materials like silk , lace and chenille, it didn't snag the material but made a smooth cut. The tip of the shears are so sharp that I found myself using them as a seam ripper as well. The point of the shears can catch the thread easily. The fiskar shears are lightweight but strong and cuts so smooth that anyone would be impressed. With the fiskar shears being so sharp, I don't know how long before I would have to have them sharpened. I don't think anytime soon. I would suggest that if you want a great pair of fabric shears, you should purchase these. You won't be disappointed. I will recommend them to family and friends. I give them a five star item. Thanks once again fiskar for making a good pair of shears
