Great tasting coffee

Anonymous August 7, 2021

This is great coffee. A really good medium roast. I wish it was sold at all Walmart stores. Unfortunately it is carried by very few stores, but is availble on-line. This is such a good coffee that I don't need to add nearly as much cream and sugar. A really good flavor yet not as acidic as regular coffee.

Full Smooth Bold Flavor

valerie March 19, 2018

The 1850 Pioneer Blend Medium Roast ground coffee by Folgers, is truly bold, some what nutty, smooth and 100% Arabica coffee. I also tried this coffee in the K-Cups and I prefer the ground since I can adjust the amount of grounds per cup. I prefer a mild or light medium coffee and I found that I can use very little of this ground blend per cup and still have full bodied flavor. Not only is the taste high quality so is the packaging. The package is dark navy blue with white and gold lettering. The package also has a nice brief story of James A Folger blazing ahead during the gold rush. Coffee is always something you just have to try for yourself to appreciate it since we all are individual. However, some coffees stand out above others and Folgers has stood the test of time. I have several coffee machines and I tried this particular ground coffee in a percolator and in a coffee drip machine. The flavor was the same and made a great flavorful cup every time.

Very enjoyable cup of coffee

Victoria March 26, 2018

Made from 100% Arabica beans, this is an overall delicious blend of coffee. The rich aroma upon opening the bag is wonderful and remains appealing even after brewing. For my first cup, I followed the directions on the bag (2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 fl oz of water). The result was a smooth and well-balanced coffee with no burnt aftertaste to it. I prefer a stronger brew, so for the next batch I added a tablespoon or two more to the pot. Very nice robust flavor and I didn't find it to be too bitter even with the increased strength. This pre-ground coffee is a medium roast, so if some in your family like dark, and others enjoy light, this is a good compromise everyone can appreciate.

Flavorful Coffee

HollyO20 March 27, 2018

I received the 12 oz. Folgers 1850 Pioneer Blend Ground Coffee in the Medium Roast for free from the Walmart Spark Reviewer program. This is a new product just released this month from Folgers which is owned by the J.M. Smuckers Company. The name “1850 by Folgers” is so-named because it’s the year Folgers was founded during the 1850’s Gold Rush in California. This is a new premium artisanal brand for them made with 100- percent Arabica beans. There are four blends available: Lantern Glow Light Roast, Pioneer Blend Medium Roast, Trailblazer Medium-Dark Roast, and Black Gold Dark Roast. It can be purchased in ground, whole bean or in pods. They say each blend is fire-roasted and steel-cut, producing a blend that is strong and smooth, but not bitter. I have to say the Medium Blend, which is middle-of-the-road in strength, was plenty strong. I typically buy the Dark Roast at the coffee shop but add plenty of cream. I didn’t make this with the two tablespoons per cup as they recommended. I only used one level tablespoon and it was plenty strong. I did only use 2% milk which might have made a difference. The flavor was smooth and satisfying. The smell of the ground coffee in the bag makes me want some every time I walk passed it!

Nice ful flavor coffee

UpstateNY May 3, 2018

I have brewed a few pots of 1850 Pioneer Blend Medium Roast Coffee. I like that the coffee has a great coffee taste. I want to say bold, but not strong like a Black Satin or Italian Roast. You get a full flavor coffee, not a weak or watered down coffee. I drink my coffee black, so the flavor is not changed by sugar or creamers. I brew my coffee in a drip coffee maker. I recommend this coffee.

Amazing coffee!

CrystalY April 27, 2026

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of like to compliment the packaging for no plastic. It also kept the coffee very fresh and I was opening it multiple times a day. This is a smooth and flavorful coffee. No bitterness at all. It brews really well in my single pod. I'll definitely be buying this again

Nice with a rich roast

BMAL1 March 28, 2018

I was happy to be able to test out this new Folgers Pioneer blend Medium Roast. I think Folgers has a nice rich bitter taste in my opinion. This Folgers Pioneer ground coffee gave me that same taste and aroma as a Folgers classic medium roast normally should. I made this with the rich roast setting on my coffee maker and it gave me a nice deep dark color that was very enjoyable. If you are a fan of Folgers coffee and want to try out a new look to change it up I would recommend you give this coffee a shot. If you are hoping this kind of Folgers is completely different then the classic Folgers medium roast then you may not want to seek this out. In my honest opinion I just don't see a major difference between the two but mostly just see this packaging as a new look to show the history of this Folgers Pioneer coffee. This was a pleasant cup of coffee on my rich roast setting. I was happy to give this a shot for my honest opinions. I provided a close up of the coffee pack with it's true color and a close up of what the coffee looks like on my rich roast setting for my coffee maker. I thought this might be something different or have some sort of a twist but why mess with what works anyways.

Impressive

SarahB April 12, 2026

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I made this Folgers coffee as cold brew. It is nice and smooth. Not too acidic. The grounds were fresh and smelled strong. I would say this is on the strong end of medium blend which is good for me. I do with the grind was a little bit coarser since I had it for cold brew.

Not very impressive

Frugalwizard April 12, 2018

I was eager to try out the Folgers 1850 Pioneer Blend coffee when Wal-Mart offered it through their Sparker reviewer program, I have always been a Folger's fan of their medium roast line. I was a bit disappointed however in this blend. Maybe it was because I ordered the pre-ground vs the whole bean and the grind wasn't as fresh as the home ground beans. I felt that the coffee lacked a depth of flavor and definitely wasn't bold. It wasn't bitter, just so-so. It definitely didn't stand out as a winner in my book. Oddly enough the directions indicate to use twice the amount of grounds as compared to their other pre-ground coffees. There was little coffee aroma when I initially opened the bag and even while it brewed there was a lack of "fresh coffee brewing" that greets us with so many of the other Folger's coffees. I'm giving it 3 stars because it was smooth and did not leave a bitter taste in my mouth after a cup.

Ok coffee,but thats about it.

christineB April 12, 2026

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a person who likes coffee thick enough you can cut it with a knife. I am wedded to Yuban dark, but the Folgers (I'll pick up some of their Black Silk when I'm out of the usual) came up and I thought why not. Well, I'll tell you why not. First, this says medium roast, but that'd stretching it. With my jumbo metal coffee basket filled to the brim, it was still light enough to see through (BIG no-no for my coffee). It tasted ok, but really more watery than anything else. And the packaging is the dumbest design I've come across in a while. The container is paper, and the lid is attached to one end with a nickel-to-quarter sized hole for the grounds to pour our. Best of luck trying to hold the box at the proper angle to get the grounds to pour out and still keep the lid out of your basket, where it will inevitably flip and toss grounds all over your kitchen. Also, a very fine grrd, enough so that I had some floaters in the bottom of the pot, which is a star off right there. This coffee is ok, more along the lines of what you'd get at Denny's or a gas station. It's caffeine. It will suffice, but not gladly.
