We keep a bottle of Quick Defense capsules on hand at our house, and take them at the first sign of a sniffle or cough, and/or when we'll be exposed to people who may be sick (crowds, winter work environment, family gatherings with lots of kids). As with other echinacea products you need to take it BEFORE or AT THE BEGINNING of cold symptoms -- It works as prevention rather than as a remedy. We get good results when taking it several times a day for 2-3 days. The GAIA brand is very high quality. It's well worth the price, in my opinion. They have another product, Echinacea Supreme, which we also swear by, especially for sore throats. Both the Ech.Supreme and the Quick Defense are liquid-filled capsules, more easily absorbed and faster-working than powdered or dry herb forms.TIP: if you have the beginning of sore throat/swollen glands, try chewing a capsule of Echinacea Supreme every couple hours for half a day. The liquid in it will make your mouth tingle fiercely for 20 minutes or so (Some people enjoy the sensation, some do not, so it's best to test this with just a little bit at first!). It's REALLY effective for me at heading off swollen glands and sore throats. I haven't tried chewing the Quick Defense though.
