Awesome specs for the price. Buy it !!!

Benjamin October 8, 2022

I didn’t know Gateway was back, so I did a little research and found out that the NAME had been purchased by Acer. Acer is pretty good. But then I found out that Acer had subcontracted their Gateway computer manufacturing to a Chinese company called Evoo. Apparently, Evoo can make both good and less than good quality machinery (but so does Dell and HP. You can still buy Dell and HP Celeron-powered 4-gig laptops with 64gb ssd that run out of room after a major update) but the specs on this Gateway laptop were so good for the price of $340, I couldn’t pass it up. So far this machine has blown me away. I purchased it to play older fps games such as Quake 1-4, Arena, Quake Live and Valorant. Other than getting my pride handed to me while playing Valorant and getting called a NOOB and cursed out by 12 year-olds, I’m loving this machine. 11th Gen i5 500gb ssd 16gb ram (biggest difference) Iris XE graphics are plenty strong to play these light FPS games smoothly. You won’t find a machine with specs like this for DOUBLE the price. So far loving it, and it’s very quiet. Very highly recommended. Evoo is a huge brand in China, and it’s Walmart’s house brand (called a Gateway) so I figure they have decent support seeing that there’s a Walmart in every town.

great machine

RODRIGO June 5, 2021

Beautiful laptop, can't believe the quality and beast specs for the price. Am able to develop and game on the go with comfortable battery life before I'm looking for the electric outlet. As a mechanical keyboard user I enjoy the keyboard quite a bit, it has good feedback and the trackpad is also quite decent. It feels like a robust laptop, and I enjoy not having a numpad crammed in here. Enjoying it more than my dedicated business lenovo thinkpad laptop so far (probably because i'm admin, dag nam corp policies).

Super fast affordable laptop!

Julien October 15, 2022

Awesome, laptop shipped very quickly and arrived in perfect condition. Almost as fast as my high end older computer for a quarter of the price! Very pleased with this seller and laptop.

Best value 11th Gen Core i5 ultrabook

cary June 4, 2021

Back to 1990s and 2000s, Gateway is a very trusted computer brand. I still remember my fellow classmate had a slim Gateway laptop while I carried a bulky Dell laptop around 2002 when we were in grad school studying computer science. I was jealous! However, sometime later, Gateway disappeared. Walmart brought it back recently selling the Brand's ultra slim laptops in very attractive price in different CPU, SSD, Screen configurations. Since then, many bought these Walmart tailored Gateway laptops and many nice comments were posted around. I read through them, the most attrative feature of the laptop to me is the easy expansion of storage. The laptop has two SSD storage slots, one internal that is only accessible when taking off the back cover, the other resides in a small chamber that is very easily accessible by users (see my picture with red circled out). The two SSD slots feature usually comes with expensive workstation class laptops, but Gateway brings it to me, and make it so simple to add an additional SSD (m.2 SSD ony, not PCIe NVME SSD)! I have the need in running two OSes in one computer so that I don't need to bring two laptops with me, but I don't want them reside together in one drive. This Gateway computer is perfect with such a low price! So when this latest model with 11th gen Intel Core i5 CPU comes to Walmart on sale, I bought one, install a PNY m.2 SSD to run Fedora Linux. I couldn't be happier! The laptop is slim, very light weight, and feels premium. It looks like the black Dell Inspiron 14 5000 in 2019. For this 11th Gen CPU series (maybe call it Gateway Ultraslim 14 Gen2), it has 5 different colors (black, green, blue, rose gold, silver), but I chose the black one. The case is plastic but sturdy. It features an Intel Core i5-1135G7 quadcore octathreads CPU, 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. It comes with Intel AC9461 Wifi and a Blutooth, Realtek audio with THX tuned, Intel Xe graphic chip, 14" FHD 1080p LCD, webcam, it also come with Trusted Platform 2.0, fingerprint reader, 2 USB Type A ports, 1 USB Type C port, 1 HDMI port, and 1 microSD card slot which can support up to 512GB. But no Thunderbolt (the USB Type C port only supports data transfer, not charging, not display port), no backlit keyboard, and no IR camera. It runs on Window 10 Home. For the price less than $500, it is a fully featured laptop! Worth every dollar of the price. The laptop is manufactured by Acer, a very trusted brand, in China. I had used for a few days before I release this review. The computer works flawlessly. The keyboard feels good in typing. I am typing this review on this laptop in fact. However, the touchpad is kind of stiffy and hard to use, it fequently messes up the two-finger gestures. The LCD is vivi in color. The laptop is not hot and no fan noise at all for a few hours' use. The battery has no problem in supporting 8 hours use for a single charge so I don't have to bring adaptor when I go out. The laptop is very fast, it takes less than 8 sec

Alot of computer for the money.

Jerald July 6, 2021

It has a Intel Core i5, processor, 16 GB of memory, 512 GB solid state drive, a 1920x1080 LCD display. That's alot of bang for your buck for a 14 inch notebook. So far I'm impressed with its performance and quality for under $500. My only negatives are the audio and the touchpad. The speakers suck. They sound real tinny and the max volume is low. Its tuned by THX audio but doesn't improve the sound at all. The touchpad is not great but in the windows settings you can get it close to good. But for the money this computer is well worth it. You wont find any better for this price.

Moderately satisfied with some caveats

Steven May 7, 2023

The computer is "OK" and reflects the price paid. The processor, memory and storage are good for the price. Build quality (this is a Walmart exclusive product) is so-so. USA support is provided by a separate entity and they **very** often refer questions/issues to their phone and email support which is very sketchy. There is minimal online support. I upgraded to Win 11 and expected a full implementation and got "mostly." For example, I wanted "Smart Charging" - a *mostly* standard Win 11 utility that limits battery charging to a set amount. This is because Lithium ion batteries do not like to be 100% charged all the time; they wear-out quickly. This computer's battery is internal, and replacement is not convenient. Replacement requires a non-trivial opening of the case (keep track of which screws go where) and removal of both screws (keep track!) and delicate connectors and the antenna wire (see a YouTube video on a strip-down of this computer). Finally, you would need to know what battery to get and where to get it - price is not yet known. As of this writing, I have not heard from GW-USA about any implementation of Smart Charging or how I might be able to do it myself. My approach was to buy the 3-year service contract that covers the battery.

don't buy

allsportsmomof4 May 31, 2022

Screen turned to lines within a month. then it would go back to working. Now it is just lines. Hook up to external monitor everything works fine. Customer support totally ignored me, so had factory warranty, but they won't respond. $500 in the trash. 3 stars because when the screen works, I love it.

Disappointed as I needed it for work.

Edward May 26, 2023

Stopped working after 1 week. Wouldn't even turn on. The exact same laptop in the 15.6 screen has worked great for over 16 months. Wanted the 14.1 screen size for work and very disappointed.

Disappointed

Maria January 19, 2023

Very disappointed about this product, just bought last November, already saw a black thin line across the screen, had to screen, had to pay for the shipment back to get it fixed. Good thing I haven't thrown the box away. Fingers crossed Gateway will get this fixed ASAP.
