Geo Safari® Jr. Talking Microscope™

We received this kit and my 8 year old daughter could not WAIT to dig into it. The items included in the kit were plastic, but fairly good quality, easily reusable for each experiment. The book/journal included about 10 experiments that required things easily found in your pantry/kitchen. Only a few were not in mine (beef boullion, gelatin) , but mine is a little weird. My daughter was old enough to follow all the directions herself, if not fully able to clean up completely after herself :). She is resistant to writing so she didn't use the workbook, but I think she has made the connections in her brain. I like that they gave directions for making more agar for the petri dishes, although I do wish they had specified that the agar making directions they gave (for the included packet), was for all 4 petri dishes because my daughter crammed it all into two and it went right up to the lid. Oops. It's all part of learning, right? She has been loving experimenting with this kit all summer. I might suggest that you wait until your child can remember things because most of these involve waiting and checking on things and it was an out-of-sight, out-of-mind deal for a few of them. Very cool product, I have a 4 and 8 year old that love doing experiments! My only suggestion would be that the kit have more of the powder for creating the Petri dishes, we were only able to complete 1 experiment with what we were given. Kids loved finding germy items around the house.
