Kids had a blast with these. Honestly best brand I have seen. I have bought several but this one if you get tired of trying drop in it some water and it will slowly soften up. Most of them contain between 3-7 pieces. We bought gem boxes for them kids love to do this activity.

Fun little jewel gift for 9 year old girl. She loves discovering and collecting them. I you need an activity to keep a child occupied for a few hours, get a few and place them in a room.

Got it for my 8 year old son for his birthday. He love it and appreciated getting to smash it to get the toy out! Occupied him a good twenty minutes. He had fun and was excited to extract the toy!

Kids love these I get them often. Definitely an outdoor project as it's chalky but it sprays away easily. Good pass time to dig for little surprises.

this was a great activity to use with my students while learning about rocks and minerals found on the earth's surface. they were affordable and engaging!

This excavation kit is excellent for kids. It's fun, educational, and keeps children engaged while they learn about rocks and fossils. The tools are easy to use, the quality is good, and it's a great hands-on science activity.

my kiddo threw it on the ground and broke it open instantly.. would definitely put an age range of 4-7 years. big boys will just destroy it instantly without any valued play time digging for fossils. it was just a plastic you inside. not really a fossil

The kits came in plastic bags and the inside of the bag had so much dust in it, you couldn't read what this is until you open it, which was a mess of dust. The brick should have been shrink-wrapped within the package.

My son is really into digging for rocks and collecting them as a hobby. I bought this under the advertised "impression" given that after you "soften" the large "clay-like" rock with the included digging "stick" you would find a "few" different collectible minerals/rocks. The stone included that you use to dig is a decent-sized rock (around 5-6") whereas you would more than likely receive at the very minimum at least 4-5 smaller stones inside. We followed the instructions by getting the initial gray rock wet and within a few minutes of letting the water do its job, it began to soften it into a "clay-like" surface for easier digging. BTW...this made quite the mess so make sure you use either newspaper or a paper plate underneath. Well, that worked exactly as anticipated BUT as we began to dig, and dig all we found were "2" rather non-unique, very basic gray stones. These were the type of stones you'd find in someone's driveway really. This was a huge disappointment because when you read the enclosed directions along with all the photos on the outside of the package you are lead to believe there would be a decent assortment of precious and/or different sized and shaped minerals/stones you'd like to add to a collection inside. Geez, the stones we found were the size of about a nickel, and much to our total dismay, only a TOTAL of "2" stones were found after all mess, the time it took, the digging! What a waste of time!

the item is not as pictured. there is supposed to be 2 in a package. it is described and pictured that way. however, they arrived w only one in the package for the same price. then they wanted me to bring it back to get a refund!
