I read all of the other reviews before purchasing. Here is the straight deal: I bought this for our 3 and 5 year old boys for Christmas. They love it. Yes, the directions were a bit vague, but anyone with a basic sense of how a drum kit should look will be able to get this thing together in under an hour. The quality (despite being made in China) is quite good surprisingly. My kids have been banging on this kit for a month now and it has held up very well and I have not had to tune the heads yet. It's more or less a real drum kit with a smaller bass drum (and throne), thus all of the other components are brought down in height. True, the kick pedal is weak, but all of the other components are nicely made. My only complaint is that the crash cymbal can't be mounted higher as it sort of interferes with the tom. I looked at a Ludwig Jr. set at Sam Ash and I'm glad I went with this one. If my kids don't take to the drums, I didn't break the bank on this experiment and didn't sacrifice (too much) quality in favor of price. I've even pulled up a chair and banged out some beats and it held up well even for this 42 year old hack. My boys are both pretty big for their age, but I can see them enjoying this kit until probably age 8 or 9. I think any teenager will be too big for it though and probably destroy it - especially if they are into the type of music I was at that age :) In summary, I highly recommend this drum kit for any junior beginner.
I absolutely loved this drumset. I purchased it for my 5 yr. Old daughters birthday. She was sooo excited when it arrived. It came with everything! Even the seat/stool. Easy to assemble as well. This was a great purchase and She plays like a pro!!:-)
Great looking and sounding drum set for a beginning player. The only con was the instructions could have been made easier and more clearly. Happy with the purchase though. It sure made 8 yr old Kaleb a very excited boy on Christmas!
You will need to know a few names of drum parts to put this together. But this was fairly easy to put together in under and hour. We are really impressed with the quality of this product! So happy our drum teacher recommended Walmart to us
My daughter loved it. Great quality, sound and it only took my husband 20 minutes to put together. It's hard on our ears, but it's worth it because she's so happy.
Great kid-appropriate set! It's definitely more high-quality than a toy and assembly isn't bad. My 8- and 6-year old love it and I can see them getting a few more years old out it (their 10 and 12-year-old cousins came over and also loved it). I'd recommend also buying drummer earphones to protect their ears, which my kids think look cool--we got Vic Firth brand on amazon.
Bought this set for my seven year old grandson. He loves it. The size of the drum set is just about right for his age. It appears to be a quality set that I hope will prove me right with time. My son who has been a drummer for about 15 years gave this the okay, which means a lot to me. I was impressed with the ability to adjust the drum taughtness. One final point. It took about 11/2 hours to put it together. That seems okay to me because I tend to be very careful.
It looks and sounds great. My 5 year old loves it! We've been playing with it for 3 days now and the top cymbal is already getting bent up a bit but other than that... Good purchase.
I purchased this for my grandson, age 3. He has been banging away on it since it arrived. It was easy to put together, it has stayed solid, and the size is just right. I don't think a child of 7 or older could use it, but for him it is just right.
Well, I thought that I was certifiably insane for buying my son a drum set, but so far, so good. My nine year old really likes the set. It is big enough for him, but not too big; and the sound is crisp. In setting up, a few of the bolts for the bass drum didn't fit the nut fittings, so I had to improvise with some of my own. Aside from that, set-up took about 45 minutes. Overall a good set that should last.
