The entire purpose was not having to bend down, but that wasn't the case. After stepping on the lever you were only suppose to push forward and it was suppose to snap the weed root and then you pull it up to dispose. However I kept having to push the handle all the way to the ground and it did noting, While the claws were still in the ground I had to push the handle to the ground on the 3 sides that didn't have the foot lever. Only 2 times out of 18 attempting pulling dandelions did it particely work, and even the 2 it did pull out had less than an inch of the root.
The metal claws need to be at least another inch longer, and they need to close tight enough to not only snap but also hold on to the root and plant to pull out. And of course you shouldn't have to push the handle all the way to the ground on three sides and still not work. I finally gave up and used the hand held 12 inch rod you push in by hand and turn around the weed, you hear the root snap loose and pull out the entire plant and root. The only good thing was the wooden handle is sturdyI will be returning, waste of time and money, a huge disappointment.
