Where was this when I was younger?

Anonymous March 15, 2025

I'm amazed by this Grampa's Weeder. We're both mid-60s and pulling weeds is not big on our list. However, this winter I didn't tend the land as much as I should have and a large number of thistle weeds invaded the yard. My bride found the Grampa's Weeder when looking online for weed removal products and I ordered one. We got the 45" wooden handle model and began using it this morning. I've already ordered a second because this works so well. Absolutely easy to use. Center the 4 tines in the all metal weed removal head directly over the center of the weed and step on the side bar to push the tines in, surrounding the weed stem. Then rock the handle toward the side with the foot bar. That rocks the weed removal head to the side and pulls the weed right out of the ground. It brings the weed roots and tap root with it. It leaves almost nothing in the ground except a small divot where the weed roots used to be. We worked less than an hour and filled two 40-pound birdseed bags with weeds. It isn't effortless but it's the best way we've either seen to pull weeds. The thistles have quite a tap root and if you try to pull them out by hand all you do is pull off the leaves. With Grampa's Weeder everything comes up with the leaves. Worst case scenario is we have to drop half a cup of topsoil in the small divots that remain. Easy 5 Star recommendation on this. That's why we have already ordered a second one.

10 stars!!!

I haven't seen a garden tool this well made in decades. I am a sr. citizen with severe arthritis in my hips and lumbar spine. This tool is so easy to use; it requires no strength at all. It easily rips up those coarse weeds that try to take over my yard. I am beyond impressed.

Works as Advertised!

Works great, so easy to use! Pulls up dandelions with minimal effort. Works well on violets too, but I found it is hard to discern the center of the violets, especially when they tend to grow close together. I pulled off leaves %26 was then able to see better where the center was. It pulls them out well too. I'm very happy with this tool!

Weeding is a breeze!

Glenn August 9, 2025

Grampas metal shaft weeder is a joy to use. The threaded sections of the handle screw into place. Some Loc-Tite keeps them there. The construction is sturdy and makes short work of weeding. My advice. Along with the weeder, get a cultivator hoe. It has a flat blade and three tines on the opposite side of the hoe. This is of great help in finding, transporting, back filling holes and cleaning the forks of the weeder. Get a bucket for the many weeds you will collect. Get dry spray lubricant and a rag for cleaning your tools. Weeding will become fun enough for you to actually go hunting for them. Recommended!

Worth every penny!

Outperformed my expectations and extremely satisfying to use! Actually fun to get the entire crabgrass weed with ALL of its roots in one pull! Check out my pics! Be sure to center the four tines over the center of the plant and when you step on the lever to pull the weed, pulling slower works better than a quick pull. The steel pole arrives in sections that get twisted together. I had someone help grip one side so I could tighten really well and it's really sturdy! Highly recommend! I only used it on the big, deep crabgrass but imagine it'll work on other hard to pull weeds too! The only negative I found is that I had to push the pulled weed out of the four tines with my finger, but that could be due to compacted clay soil in my area. Highly recommend!

it works!

I almost fell for the Facebook ad, but decided to take a screenshot and shop around. Walmart offered a great price and free/fast shipping. As soon as it arrived I went out to the yard to attack those nasty, furry, pricker weeds. Just a poke, twist and lift to extract them. Some came out in chunks and may have left some root behind, but I'll be ready to take them on again if they dare to return.

I saw this ad on facebook, given by a decendant of the original inventor. It is very easy to use and does its job well. I do it twice for longer taproots such ss dandelions. I saw Walmart carried this product so thought i would try it. Had limited use of right shoulder for a time so this was a great choice.

This thing is great, especially if you have the pokey weeds (Canadian thistle). I got the metal handle but I think I would have liked the wooden one more. I used it a ton over the first two days, after a while the screw points in the handle felt a little wobbly while using it but I couldn't tighten them any more. It worked like a charm though handling the stickers. Pro tip: use after it rains when you're less likely to break off the roots.

Great tool for weeding

mclaire May 10, 2026

Grampa's weeder is well made and heavy. I bought the all metal one. The handle comes in 3 pieces that screw together. I found that after using it for awhile I had to tighten the handle as the sections were loosening a little. A minor inconvenience. The only other issue I had was the claws aren't long enough to remove the longest roots, especially in large dandelions.

Don't bother, waste of time, effort and money.

linda April 19, 2026

The entire purpose was not having to bend down, but that wasn't the case. After stepping on the lever you were only suppose to push forward and it was suppose to snap the weed root and then you pull it up to dispose. However I kept having to push the handle all the way to the ground and it did noting, While the claws were still in the ground I had to push the handle to the ground on the 3 sides that didn't have the foot lever. Only 2 times out of 18 attempting pulling dandelions did it particely work, and even the 2 it did pull out had less than an inch of the root. The metal claws need to be at least another inch longer, and they need to close tight enough to not only snap but also hold on to the root and plant to pull out. And of course you shouldn't have to push the handle all the way to the ground on three sides and still not work. I finally gave up and used the hand held 12 inch rod you push in by hand and turn around the weed, you hear the root snap loose and pull out the entire plant and root. The only good thing was the wooden handle is sturdyI will be returning, waste of time and money, a huge disappointment.
