After receiving the mousetrap and reading the instructions setting the trap was fairly easy. So far I have not had any false trappings but I have not been able to entice the mouse either. Initially getting the trap to stay set was a problem but once I got the hang of it it was easy and stable.
In 10 days I have removed all chippies and moles from my back yard. I have bird feeders and the critters drove me nuts. The purchase of bird seed was out of control. The neighbors are also happy and the little guys all were successfully relocated. It's a great product.
It's sized for small pests, like moles or ground squirrels. I know. Ground squirrels are cute. But they can cause a lot of damage in a garden. Let's treat them humanely and release them in a more suitable environment.. For that, this trap works very well.
I purchased this trap for an army of chipmunks. A little practice on setting it, add some peanut butter with a few sunflower seeds inside the trap and a trail of the seeds to the door and WOW, watch the population of the little rascals decrease!! I did find that the model 1025 may be more suited for chipmunks size wise rather than the model 1020 as I did loose a couple catches. So, I ordered the 1025 since I was very pleased with the design and construction of the smaller version. Really didn't need it as I haven't seen a chipmunk in the yard since the 1025 arrived!!!!!
great product delivered in good condition
Had a feral cat give birth to four kittens under the barn. Bought this cage when kittens were old enough to be separated from Mom. Wishing i had bought the two door but that is my fault. Having all fixed then will release them for mousers.
I remember using these, as a kid. We used to deploy Hav-A-Harts to trap and move gophers. I don't agree with killing animals, plus: I needed a rodent-sized Hav-a-Hart in case my hamster gets out. However, I am not sure that this trap is technically big enough for a field mouse -- they have long tails, and I'd worry about the door shutting on tails, in case I caught one! I DID find other equally-priced and also cruelty-free/no-kill traps online at Wal-Mart. They looked like they provided more room for mouse-tails, which is why I would try the other kind, next time. That said, Hav-a_Hart is an industry standard, and if you pick the right size, they do work. They are easy to bait and use -- you can't hurt yourself... You just need to be patient, a bit, with how to set the gate. I say I wouldn't recommend it because I think Hav-A-Hart should help us, more, in determining the size of their traps.
This Havahart trap is excellent…I know this because I have another just like it. Unfortunately, Walmart's shipping / packaging destroyed it before it even got here. Returned to the store.
This trap is hard to set. After it was set and a chipmunk was trapped, the door locks did not engage and the animal escaped. This has happened several times. Even when checked to see if it worked, the door locks did not work. One animal that was trapped was able to make the door trap wire come off the trap. The trap has not caught any chipmunks, it is just acting as a feeder.
very cheap construction. it fell apart in transit. i am returning it to store.
