This does go on smooth, and it smells great right out of the bottle, like a warm summer beach day. I was hopeful, based on other reviews, that it wouldn't have that weird self-tanner smell. Initially it appeared that would be the case, but as this dried down, that smell was there and pretty strong. It wears off, but takes a while to get to that point. I used this lotion at night after my first application, knowing that was the case and although it is still there in the morning, it is much more faint and tolerable. The color is indeed gradual and provides a nice even color. You have to be careful to blend well on more dry areas and tops of feet, or you will get orange streaks! I have sensitive skin, but found this easily gentle enough to use on my face as well without any issues. Overall this is a great product and one that I will continue using!

I have been using it everyday over a month and have seen no color. It has a self tanner smell but it does not give you any color.

Don’t waste your money. No tone change really, washes off every time.
