This is the first time I’ve ever used a soldering iron. I was a little apprehensive but was quickly put at ease. I will say there needs to be better directions on the package because it only had the contents on there and no instructions on how to use the iron. After I googled a little, I began using the iron. I was making geometric shapes for my son and we used the iron to fuse the wires together. The iron obviously gets incredibly hot. I used the tip that was included with the iron and the tube of solder that came with it for this project. It also comes with an extra tip. The iron was easy to get used to and it is easy to pinpoint where you need the solder to go. The iron melted the solder very quickly and made it easy for this first timer to get her projects finished. I had no problems using the iron and with some more practice, I’ll be a pro.
Handy little soldering iron. I use it for soldering wires when installing aftermarket radio in my friends truck. I like that it heats quickly and is small enough to fit in tight places. Comes with a spare tip which is good because these "always on" when plugged in soldering irons can burn up tips rather quickly.
This Hyper Tough 30-Watt Soldering Iron with Stand and Electrical Solder is a nice set for a beginner. I was familiar with how to use a Soldering iron, as I watched my dad using one many times when I was growing up. And it worked just like it should. Easy to use. The wire feeds out of the tube easily, and the iron gets hot quickly and melts the solder just right. I tested it out by soldering a connector piece in a necklace that was loose. I think it came out pretty nice, for being a beginner. I do a lot of crafts and dabble in jewelry making, so I’m going to make good use of this and am very happy to have it.
The soldering iron is built with very durable material. It heats up very fast so be careful when you are using it. I loved that it came with the stand and solder. That helped me a lot when it came to having everything you need to start your project. It took me a few seconds to solder a piece of metal to a motherboard. It also was good when I used it to do a small jewelry project that I need to solder the closures I will be recommending this soldering iron to my family and friends.
This soldering iron heats up pretty quickly so be ready for that. The stand is great for this as you can set it down without worry. This is perfect for jewelry makers as it has the smaller tip and you can handle more intricate designs easily.
Upon initially receiving this soldering iron, I was pleasantly surprised as the old one that I have been using was over 10 years old and I was looking to replace them. Opening this type of package is always a practice in destroying the packaging and to never be able to utilize it for further storage, but the packing box will be very useful. This Hyper Tough 30-Watt Soldering Iron model GS-30W seems reasonably durable and with two tips should last quite a while for the particular use that I have and that is to repair computer motherboard components, such as power sockets and USB connections, 30 watts is enough. The handle has a good solid feeling and there is no internal rattling. The heat prop-up holder is typical but it is not sufficient for my particular needs. However, I did not intend to use this kind of holder as I have a pretty good set up with an advanced utility that this soldering iron will complement for many repairs to come. With computer repairs, clean and sharp pointed tips are important and this soldering iron has the ability to not only change tips but appears that it can accommodate other sizes as needed.
Pros 1) An extra replacement tip is always helpful. 2) The Rosin Core Solder works well and the self-feeding tube makes soldering easier and convenient. Cons 1) There is only one style of tip included. I'm not sure if different tip styles are sold separately, but if so, I would purchase them. 2) There is no light indicating the solder is on and hot. This could pose a safety issue for users. 3) There is a stand included in this kit; however, it is very light and it dragged the cord. To prevent this, it would be nice if it had a gripped bottom, or slightly weighted bottom. 4) There are two screws to release and tighten the tip. I found them to be bulky. If I had been working in a tight spot, they would have been in the way. Overall, this soldering iron is good for a small project (as advertised).
It works. Of course it misses a lot of usability features. You have to plug and unplug to turn it on and off. It could be better if it had a switch instead. There is now way of knowing if it is hot enough as there is no indicator. It's stand is so simple, sometimes it gets hard to put it on the stand properly, especially when your workspace is crowded and small.
This item is flat out dangerous. It is defective. I purchased this and immediately tried to use. The default head wouldn’t tin properly. Unplugged, cooled. Changed to other head, and this one tinned better, however it was directing a current using me as a conduit and the lights I was soldering (which were not connected to power in any way) began flickering. I’m insanely lucky I did not get shocked or electrocuted. I will be returning this tomorrow.
It’s advertised as coming with both a stand and soldering wire and you pay for all of that. It doesn’t come with a soldering wire but yet it’s advertised that we get that as well, which is false and misleading.
