I needed to hire a shop that specializes in installing hitches, since my Chevy Spark doesn't come with a hitch. Why bust my knuckles, buy a bunch of tools and a lift/rack I'll only use once? It's bicycle hitch mount holds two bicycles very securely and I'd perfect for my trips into the wild.
Most carriers are way over engineered and over priced. This rack is ideal for transporting bikes around town. Easy to assemble, mount and load. Bikes are secure and don't move around, straps (which are included) aren't even necessary. Platform folds up or down when no in use. Very satisfied with this carrier
I wasn't expecting much buying one of the cheapest hitch racks out there. Costing but a small fraction of what similar name brand offerings go for. But I was pleasantly surprised. Yes I do have complaints. Streaks of rust all over after the first rain, and one of the wing nuts stripped way too easily. The tie-downs are sturdy, but quite annoying to use, and the rack can't be tilted down like some models do, so it's blocking access to the rear hatch on my MDX. But they did get the right things right. It's sturdy. Very confident that the main structure is going to hold up. Stupid simple to use. Bikes are in and out in seconds. And not a single scratch on my bikes. Best part - it paid for itself on the first trip, letting us skip bike rentals. I'd be concerned if you live in a wet climate and plan on having it permanently attached. But if you're in the desert, like I am, or going to store it in a garage for occasional trips - this is a great deal.
This is a much nicer bike rack than I expected. It was easy to put together and I was able to install it myself. It is a stripped down version of fancier bike racks. In order to adjust the arms or swing it out of the way, you have to remove cotter pins - which isn't that big of a deal but it is worth noting. And you have to take off the bikes and remove more pins out in order to lay the tall pedestal down in order to open the back door. Not a big deal for me. Since I do a lot of street parking I needed a bike rack that could be installed and removed easily. And this one can be removed in a matter of moments. So far I'm very pleased and would recommend this rack.
The top supports clicking into place is super fast and easy. If only this thing easily folded down so I can open my trunk that would be great. Also some rubber straps that are connected to the wheel tracks instead of this velcro stuff would make it perfect.
I only gave this 4 stars because I bought a used one before and it had rust on it so the metal isn't high quality and it got hit and it crumpled easily. I bought another one though because it works well, it fits and it is cheap. I always use the Velcro straps and I double check that the bar is all the way down at the lowest spot under my bike seat. I've driven fast down curvy mountain roads and never lost my bike. Lol
For $67, this is a great buy if your looking for a hitch bike rack that doesn't cost $400. The construction of the bike rack seems to be of decent quality for what it is. The assembly instructions are not very helpful, just make sure to read carefully and look closely at the images. It took me about 45 minutes to assemble. If you have a 2 inch receiver hitch like I do, know that the bike rack comes with a 2" PLASTIC adapter as this bike rack is made to fit a 1.25'" hitch, it's nice that this is included but if you plan on going on a road trip, just go buy a 2" to 1.25" sturdy METAL hitch adapter which will cost about $15 (Harbor Freight). I very tightly bolted the bike rack to the 2" to 1.25" hitch adapter with the included bolt, lock washer, washer and cotter pin so all I have to do is attach it to my 2" receiver hitch when I want to use the rack. It extends the bike rack far enough back to where I can open my tailgate! (I only have one bike) - The padded hook that clamps the bike frame down also needed some help. It is secure and tight until you start to drive and hit some bumps. The padded hook clamp will eventually loosen after a few miles so I purchased a couple bungee straps to make sure this hook doesn't loosen when driving which seemed to help. I am planning on some road trips with this bike rack so I purchased a good hitch lock, pad lock and a Brinks 15' cable to lock the bike to the bike rack and to my trucks receiver hitch. After purchasing everything I needed to safely secure my bike to the bike rack and feel comfortable leaving the bike on the bike rack unattended, I was in about $140. Much better than the average $400 a bike rack usually runs. Note that even with all the modifications and "bulking up" I did, the rack will still have some wobble and looseness when all hooked up and secured, it's not enough give to cause concern, just don't be surprised when its all hooked up and it doesn't feel welded into your hitch! I was hesitant to purchase a $67 bike rack but I'm glad I did - hopefully this long, in-depth review helps! Just plan to make some modifications that will run an extra $50-70 and you will enjoy this bike rack!
First the package from Walmart was all wet and damaged. Next, when I looked at the actual package that held the carrier it was taped up all over like it was resealed. After opening it and attempting to assemble it, there were several pieces missing. The hinge pins (3) were not in the box, and the hitch pin that secures it to the receiver on my truck was also missing. I am sending it back and getting a replacement so hopefully everything will be included in the replacement. Disappointed at best.
I returned the item, because I was sent someone else's return. I paid for a new one, and I expected to receive a new one. The item was partially put together and carton was heavily taped.
The central bar is damaged, the holes that should align with the platform are out of place. the manufacturer says don't return to retailer call us. I believed that... I know my fault. They have a line where you leave a VM and wait for their call back. waiting... lost the opportunity to return it.
