I am generally not a fan of instant potatoes….usually not much taste. However, the Idahoan instant potatoes had a nice potato taste even before adding butter. They stand up well to gravy as well! Adding a little sour cream or horseradish in place of butter creates an additional flavor treat. The large 26 oz. box makes it a good buy.
The taste of these instant mashed potatoes is really amazing. I was quite shocked. The texture is great and they're really wonderful when you're in a hurry and you need a side dish I just love them. It's so easy. I literally pour the instant mashed potatoes into a serving dish with butter and salt and whatever seasonings I want sometimes cheese or garlic and then just add boiling water and I'm so impressed with the texture. The taste is wonderful and everyone in my family seems to like them too.
I honestly don't think I'll ever go back to peeling and boiling potatoes from scratch after trying these Idahoan Original Mashed Potatoes. They are a total lifesaver on busy weeknights because they take literally minutes to whip up, and the texture is surprisingly fluffy and smooth—not at all like the "instant" flakes I remember from years ago. This 26.2 oz value size is perfect for our family because it lasts through several meals, and it's a great blank canvas for adding your own butter, garlic, or cheese. If you're looking for a reliable, delicious side dish that tastes like the real deal with zero effort, you definitely need to keep this in your pantry!
I keep a box on hand for when Im out of potatoes. Easy to make. If I only have one potato, I'll boil that first, set aside, then make these instant potatoes. Put in butter, touch of complete seasoning, garlic powder, and smash up the potato I boiled. I like a bit of lumpy taters. No one can tell its 99% instant with bits of a russet in there. My lil secret... lol
I boil my liver, cooking over medium heat 30 minutes - turning 15 minutes, then add the broth to 1/2 cup instant mashed potatoes, the flavor of the liver is infused with mashed potatoes and adding cooed lentils, awesome meal rich in protein, high in iron fiber!
When and if I use instant potatoes (and everyone in my family agrees) I buy Idahoan. Any size, box, packet, flavor or variation. I think we've tried (most) of them--minus a garlic version. Instant potatoes (in my experience / taste) are usually awful--they not only look instant they SCREAM instant--there is no way I can disguise the taste of burnt powder. Using butter or milk is a waste--of butter and milk. Betty Crocker instant are the worst (to us) but, obviously there are many detractors because they're sold out! Idahoan can never (of course!!!) replace raw spuds but they are good in a flash--I prefer the stove top directions-half -milk, half water. Butter (my husband likes BUTTER--not margarine ) pricey that it is--doesn't seem completely useless (such a tragedy!!) on Idahoan Original Mashed. I've even added a 'dollop' or two of our second favorite 'tater-ment' (condiment) --Daisy sour cream. I keep these in the pantry just in case-- kids like them as a quick side to a simple burger or a plain piece of baked chicken. NOT really bad--for 'real'.
I no longer drive so love that I can order pantry items at Walmart.com and have them delivered to my door! Plus this "value size" should last for quite a while. I live alone and just don't do a lot of heavy food prep. Idahoan instant mashed potatoes don't really taste like the "real thing" but they are darned close! Also quick and simple to prepare. So I can have "mashed potatoes" ready in less than 5 minutes any time I want.
I had to laugh at the reviewer that said it tasted bland. I bought this mostly because the Premium Idahoan has way too much sodium and raised my blood pressure to a dangerous level! This only has 15-20 mg per serving so I can eat almost as much as I want. The first bite - tasted just like potatoes! I am thrilled and using them daily as I find potatoes feel more filling - a true comfort food. I like mine "as is" and my DH uses gravy. We are both happy and satisfied with this product. For the others living in the south - I keep my instant potatoes in the fridge so bugs aren't a problem for me here in Mississippi. I would definitely recommend these for taste as well as price and convenience.
My family loves mashed potatoes but I don't always have the time to make them homemade so this is your next best thing. I feed 4 people so when I make these I use 2 cups of water, 2 cups of milk and a half a stick of great value salted real butter. I warm the mixer up on the stove in a pot and once it's nice and warm I slowly add the instant potato flakes. Mix it up till you have the thickness you desire. These taste great! Enjoy :)
I couldn't use it, it was packed with 4 (4pk) can pasta, 3 Mountain Dew (2 ltr.), 1 box of Ginger Snaps, and the 2 large boxes of instant potatoes were smashed and broken open. That's the worst I have ever received from you. I usually use that brand and it has always came like new and not messed up. I hope the rest of what I ordered is better than this. The order number was 200014290469623, March 09, Ambient, X74707, Trip: fab9, 1 9623
