Johnson Beetle Bou Fishing Lure, Chartreuse Chrome Tinsel Chartreuse, 2.5 in

The beetle bou is often overlooked in fishing today. Not only does it last longer than plastics lures, it is also a great value with the quantity you get per pack. Worked well on bass for me. I wasn't able to find any crappie to test it on.

I have a fishing camp off of one of the lake Erie tributaries and fish not only the streams but the lake as well. This chartreuse jig works great for steelhead. The color pattern really works well in both clear and stained water. I float this jig under a strike indicator just a few inches off of the bottom letting the stream current move it along. I have used quite a few jigs before, mostly the white ones tipped with maggots but this is the first chartreuse jig that actually performed well for me. I really like the tail on this jig and the eyes. You just can't beat maribou in the streams. Up on the lake I used this jig with a slow jerky retrieve and had good results as well. You can tip this jig with a waxworm or maggot but you really don't need to as it performs very well alone. The size seems very well proportioned with the hook and the weight is perfect. This jig casts nicely with your spinning gear and fly gear. I would recommend using some split shot about10 inches above the jig in faster currents. Also experiment with the depth after a few drifts you will find the right depth to make this jig deadly. I hope this information was helpful in your decision.
