I grew up in LA. Nothing could beat my Mom's gumbo, but this mix is very good. I made chicken and sausage gumbo with it and the whole family liked it.

I've been using this roux for years, it is seasoned and easy to use, less heart burn than grease roux

Great Roux Mix

Redbird November 23, 2019

From a natural born Cajun. . . Best roux mix ever. As close as you can get to homemade roux. With a lot less effort!

Commercial Roux That's Quick, Low-Cal, and Good

Elizabeth February 10, 2026

I'm a Louisiana native who has made many roux batches by hand. Roux is wheat flour slowly and constantly stirred on low heat in an iron skillet until it is the "right" color. It can be light pale brown to a dark brown color. You stop stirring when it gets to the color you prefer. The commercial roux is of a paler shade of brown. If you like it a medium or darker shade, you can keep stirring to attain the color you desire. If you want a light or medium color, remove your homemade roux immediately as the skillet stays hot for a while. (A shortcut to darker roux is to add commercially-made roux to a hot skillet and brown it to a darker shade.) I have been using pre-made roux for years now and it is very good, especially to thicken a gravy. I like that the powdered roux is not made with oil and using it cuts about 30 minutes off my cooking time..

GROSS NASTY DO NOT BUY!

OJ January 23, 2026

GROSSSSSSSS1 This is God awful. I had to put two jars instead of 1/2 jar it calls for to get it not watery but OMG the taste. Not even close to Tony's Roux. I wanted the no salt and ended up with a huge pot of gross. It taste like maybe gumbo you might buy in a can. It is the worst. Nothing fixes it either. No amount of seasoning. Only thing I know to do now is make some Tony's roux and add some of it to the nasty crap every time I eat it because it is really so bad I can barely choke it down. I'm having a hard time explaining all the great reviews. They couldn't pay me to say that nasty mess is good! Not enough money!!!!
