I have looked everywhere for jackfruit. I found this and thought I would give it a try. It was really good and finding this opened the door to other vegan products. I just wishef they would stock more in the local stores.
I personally think the BBQ flavor is very well put together - good combination of a little sweet tang with some smokey flavor and spice, plus an appealing texture. I am not looking for this to be exactly like pulled pork which I don't like much because it's so greasy and smells gross to me. But it does have a texture that is filling in the way you might expect meat to be. Plus it is not harsh on my digestive system the way some soy and other plant-based "meat" is. My only complaint might be the packaging which makes it somewhat messy to eat out of the bag because bits of the product can easily kind of cling to the edge and then fall out while you're eating it. But then most people might not eat it straight out of the bag like I do, in which case that's not really a problem for them. But for me it's tasty enough to eat straight out of the bag whether it's warm or cold, and luckily, with this fresh, natural jackfruit you don't have to worry about food safety concerns as much (keyword is "as much" - because you do still have to have some caution, as with anything) as you would with meat products or even some soy products.
You would never know this was not pulled pork! It was absolutely delicious!! I purchased this because I was looking for some shelf stable foods that were good to eat, because I rarely shop, so I like to get multiple items of the same thing, if possible. This is definitely being added to my list!! I would eat this almost every day for lunch! It has plenty of nutrients, and little fat, so it's a great lunch meal. So much better than tuna salad every day, which I love too, but hey, this is great!! 💗💗
So much easier using this product than what I used to do, which was buy the canned young jackfruit, shredding it and seasoning it perfectly myself. This is excellent for those out there who appreciate being able to save some time on a busy week night, or anytime you just don’t want to do any food prep work, however simple the steps may be. All you have to do is open the pouch and spoon the contents on your preferred rolls, buns, bread of choice or any other way you want to eat it and enjoy! (It’s really great in lettuce cups too, by the way!) I also like to put it on little Kings Hawaiian rolls to make sliders and pack them in my lunch bag to go; they’re absolutely yummy!
it was okay its a bit strong and feels like it woukd be good added to something like rice but is a bit strong and needs more of the jackfruit or needs something like beans or some other stuff added so its not so acidic the flavor was a bit bold but might be helpful to add some kind of fat to it or oil its more of an add in or if the recipe changes then it might be better on its own. Definitely eat it with other stuff and addin ins or veggies or sprouts or lettuce or something.
I tried this because I am trying to be more health conscious but it left much to be desired IN MY OPINION. This is something you must try for yourself because not everyone's tastes are the same. The positives are it's sustainability and ease to warm and eat.
This is one of the most disgusting things I've ever tasted. The sauce is so bad I can't even decribe it, it's really sweet and acidic and has an off flavor about it that made me double check the expiration date. I had planned on sliders for dinner and didn't have much else to make instead, so tried to salvage it by rinsing the sauce off and using my own bbq sauce. I drained and squeezed multiple times and while it did become more subtle the sauce taste can not be rinsed away. The texture is kind of pasty, little bit mushier than others with almost no shreds or chunks. It looks a bit like refried black beans, absolutely nothing like the photo on the package. I may try their unseasoned one if I can find it just for the convenience of not having to shred myself. The texture isn't the best but it's edible, the main issue is that it tastes nothing like bbq sauce or anything you want to put in your mouth for that matter. My photo is after rinsing multiple times, it was a dark black prior to that.
There was nothing about this that any of us liked. It totally went in the trash. We were going to put it on sour dough rolls but fortunately we tried it first. It was easy to use, would have been a very convenient dinner option for those busy nights but totally not for us. We use jackfruit occasionally so we gave this a try
I cannot imagine what they used to make something so overwhelmingly sweet and mouth puckeringly sour at the same time! Terrible, and comes out of the bag looking like a dry blob of old canned dog food! There has got to be better recipes to use jackfruit in.
I don’t like the BBQ flavor at all. I love the product in theory, but this was a total miss for me. I literally slam dunked it into the trash. The BBQ flavor is straight up repulsive and entirely offensive. It’s way too smoky, like borderline burnt, with this weird note that almost tastes rotten—even if it’s not. The flavor just hits wrong in every possible way. I couldn’t deal with it at all. Completely inedible for me. I’d still be open to trying other flavors, I just don’t even know where to find them.
