The kids love these. Ages 3,6,%26 1 1/2. I don't have to worry about them accidentally writing on the floor or getting it in their clothes. Came right off my hardwood floor when I wiped with paper towel and water. The colors are bright and beautiful.

This is my second set of these fantastic markers. My grandson and grand-daughter use them all the time, easy wipe clean accidents with water on cloth.

The only time I barely remember using tempera paint was in elementary school 60 years ago. I recently took up watercolor painting, and have dabbled a bit in gouache, and when looking at paint supplies, I keep coming across tempera paint supplies obviously aimed at parents and teachers of very young children. I decided to see what exactly tempera is and it is, like watercolor and gouache, a water-based paint that uses a different binder. When I saw Kwik Stix here on Walmart.com, I decided to give them a try, incorporating them into 'mixed media' watercolor and ink artwork. I decided to go with this particular set because it as 12 "classic" colors, plus 6 neon and 6 metallic, giving me a wide range of colors to work with. They work with waterproof markers, watercolor paint and gouache, but remember that, because tempera is waterbased, if you get it wet by adding a wet paint over the dried tempera, it will reactive the tempera...something I forgot when I was applying some watercolor over a tempera base. Oops! Because tempera is water-based, that means it also washes easily off your hands and the surfaces you intentionally or accidentally get the paint on. Many pigments used in water-based paints are staining (meaning they don't fully wash away, or take many, many, many washes to get it out), so while it'll fade from your skin, it might not from clothing or good furniture, or the carpet/rug, for that matter. So, protect the work surface and supervise if being used by young kids. I plan on having fun with these...hope you do, too!
