I just used this kit for a class project and the results were fantastic, even though it was my first time. I figured 10 shirts per kit and that was about right. Directions are clear and easy to follow (especially liked the DVD), but we soaked the shirts first then tied them. Had enough rubber bands, but there is only 1 pair of gloves in the kit: if you're doing a group you'll need more gloves, and you can't have too many ziploc bags! Smocks are also a good idea. Did not need all the soda ash, but the packets are easily stored for future use. Bottle nozzles seemed to clog, so we ended up cutting off the tips. Don't forget to put newspaper or something on the floor as well! I also had them put their shirts on styrofoam plates to apply the dye, which helped contain the mess--the plates rinse off so 1 set got me through 4 classes.
Definitely great for the beginner at tie dye. It was easy to use with a corny instructional video that actually helped and worked!!! I loved the set overall and was very pleased with it.
I had to "Google" on how to tye-dye since I've never done it before. I used a Hanes white tee- shirt which workout excellent. A picture is worth a 1000 words so here it is.
This worked perfectly! When I have tried tie dye before, we used rit dye and it always bled and dulled when washed. This didn't at all. It was easy and had clear instructions.
Although comparatively small...my friend and I betweenthe two of us died the equivalent of 10 to 12 extra large t shirts....between us...the clothing needed pre dying soak in soda ash....but other than that it was straightforward....a note is I actually utilized the extra left over dye to mix with food coloring, and cool aids, as well as added extra vinegar....and managed to dye another 6 or 7 items very successfully...
From age four to over 60, our family had a blast making shirts! We did it outside in the yard, and clean up was easy. The colors were bright and vibrant.
I never tie-dyed before, but I did this as a hall program for my dorm at school-- it was awesome! the kits came with simple instructions for beginners and DVD for people who wanted to try different techniques. The colors turned out vibrant, and the kit was easy to use. This is by far the best value!!
Got for 9 year old niece who loves crafts. However, I was running out of new ideas and found this item. Very nice and lots of fun. Much higher end then typical craft gifts for kids.
I believe each kit was supposed to dye 12 to 15 shirts; good thing I bought two kits, because we ran out of yellow after 8 shirts. The instructions included were clear and produced great results; I would suggest using the printed instructions and not the DVD that comes with it. The shirts did come out great, so if I could have gotten larger bottles of dye my review would be a 5!
Was very easy to use. I had never tie-dyed before. Has everthing you need. Not quite enough for as many shirts as it says. I did 7 XL sized shirts, and that was not totally soaking them with the dye. Would definetly use this again.
