Great First Gaming System

klyle78 November 23, 2014

LeapTV is a great first system to own, especially for younger children, as all the games are geared towards children between 3-8. I have 3 kids 6 and under so thie LeapTV was perfect for out family. We had been seriously considering buying a game console for our kids for about the last year or so but I was a little reluctant thinking they were still too young for the other major gaming consoles on the market. I was delighted to see this new LeapTV console was released. It is a much better option with age appropriate content plus it promotes physical activity as well as education. Kids will love seeing their favorite characters as well as themselves on the screen and all my kids are able to play it, even my 3 year old had no trouble figuring it out with a little guidance. Setting up the system is simple and it only took a couple minutes. An initial internet connection is required for registration but the console is Wi-Fi capable which makes registration a breeze if you have a wireless router. Other than registration the only time you will need internet connection is if you want to download any new apps or games from the LeapFrog site but it is not necessary to play the cartridge games. There will be a LeapTv app center on the site starting in December. The console itself does not come with any games installed but when you register you can download Pet World for free. However I would recommend that you do purchase a game or 2 when you buy the system. The graphics are outstanding and the games will keep your child occupied and entertained all while teaching them and getting them moving. The games also have audio instructions for kids who are too young to read so even the youngest kids can play. Every game cartridge has several games within it so each cartridge provides quite a few activies and will keep them engaged. Some of the games are more physical than others such as the Dance and Learn and the Sports Game. There is a huge library of games to choose from and many more are coming. There are many multi player games so you may want to purchase a second remote if you have more than one child but so many of the 2 player games don't need a second remote. This will be a great way to pass the upcoming cold winter days and burn off some of that extra energy. The LeapTV game console is brilliantly designed and grows with your child. It auto adjusts the level to fit your child and each child has their own account with a different character they choose that keeps track of their past personal progress. With a huge library of cartridge games, game downloads and videos you can expect to get years of use and the price is reasonable affordable compared to many of the other gaming systems on the market. It is everything I was looking for in a gaming system for my kids plus more. We feel this console is definitely a better fit for us than other motion gaming consoles because it is built specifically for kids and they are learning while having fun. They may still be in front of the TV but I feel better knowing they learning while they play.

Great Educational Gaming System!!!

yetiwifey November 22, 2014

The Leapfrog LeapTV Educational Active Video Gaming System is really the first of its kind. There are several gaming systems out them that offer active games, but this one if different. This system's focus is on Learning and Physical Activity. It is very easy to set up. We opened up the box, plugged it in and we're playing in a very short time. The system comes with great instructions that are easy to understand. Pretty much all you need to do is plug it in and start playing. My two 3 year old boys were so excited it start playing. I was a little worried that it was going to be too advanced for them, but there was so much that they could easily do. The whole family had a great time playing and dancing. The great thing is the kids are not only having fun, but they are learning at the same time. My kids both love it and can't wait for it to be their turn. I really like that there are 3 ways to play (use the controller, move with your body, and point play. Since my kids are younger it is much easier for them to play without the controller. They can play by just moving, jumping, and pointing to things on the screen. They also love that they can see themselves on the tv. The controller can be used in two different ways. As it's shown on the box and then handle slides up into a pointer. Included in the system is the console, stand, motion sensing camera, camera mount, HDMI cable, AC power adapter, and controller. The system only comes with one controller, but you can purchase additional ones separately. You must use it on a tv with an HDMI input. The system comes loaded with one built in game called "Pet Play World". My boys really enjoy it. You can also purchase games. We got the LeapTV Sports game and LeapTV Dance & Learn game and both are a blast. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that has kids. My boys have a blast and I'm happy knowing they are getting so much good from it- Learning, Exercise, and Fun. I am looking forward to many years of fun with this system. I feel that a child cold use this for many years as there are so many different games. I love all the leapfrog products, they have great stuff for kids. Great Job Again Leapfrog!!!

I would give this more stars if I could

First I want to say thank you to Leap Frog for making this product so extremely easy to set up. I have no patience and if I can't get it easily I will give up and move to the next item. I didn't have to worry with this. They gave detailed instructions with step by step pictures on how to set up. Once it was turned on the screen navigates you the whole way. SUPER EASY!!! Product overall seems good comes with a downloadable pet game which is really cute and will get your child to move around. You will need batteries for the remote control. One good thing I have noticed is that the remote is not needed in some games since it picks up your motion, so this is a nice features which will allow multiple players to play with out the expensive upgrade to get a remote for everybody. We have only had this for a few weeks but I think its an overall winner to a novice video game player, don't think kids who have already been exposed to the big name systems would find this as interesting.

Fun and Easy to Play!

EdwardsGirl77 November 16, 2014

So far this gaming system is a hit with my boys. It is very easy to play, it gives great instructions that are easy to understand along with pictures to show them exactly what to do. The set up could not have been easier, you plug in 3 things, the power cord, the camera and the HDMI cable to the TV. PLEASE NOTE: you must have an HDMI outlet/slot on your TV for this system to work, there is no other option that I can see to plug in the older style cables (video/audio). I found that out when I tried first setting this system up on our older tube TV, so we set up the system on our main TV in the living room, which was actually better because it gave them a lot more room to jump around during game play. My only downfall is that it can be pretty dark in our living room, so when its in camera mode it makes for a dark picture on the screen and the game cannot sense the kids movements as well, so that is something I will have to fix. The system only comes with 1 built in game called "Pet Play World", in the instructions it says you have to register the system in order to download it, but that is not true, you just need to finish the set up process in order to start playing. This game is pretty cute, definitely a good start up game. Another thing to point out is that you do not need WiFi or even connect this system to the internet to play. When you first turn the system on it takes you step by step through the set up process, so when I got to the part to connect to my WiFi I opted to skip that step. I contacted customer service via email and although they assured me that the WiFi was only used to download games and process updates as needed and that the camera did not connect to the WiFi, only to the TV, I am going to leave it disconnected for my own peace of mind. I would rather just buy the game cartridges and let the kids switch them out as they want. Overall I am happy with this gaming system, the kids love the games and I love that it sneaks in a little learning.

Make sure it will connect to your tv.

Kunchie November 17, 2014

This is a wonderful system that is good for your child's educational and physical wellbeing. While learning your child will be having fun playing games and dancing. It is very important for our children to exercise daily and this is a fun way for them to get that much needed exercise. Included in each system are the following items: console, console stand, motion-sensing camera, camera mount, HDMI cable, AC power adapter, and transforming controller with wrist strap. The system can be used in three ways: Body movement, the controller or converting it to a pointer. Make sure the cords are out of the way and there it enough room for the children to play. I have an older model TV that does not have the HDMI slot. Therefore I can't use it on my TV. I had to contact LeapFrog and this is what they told me. “The LeapTV should only be used with televisions that have an HDMI input, and the supplied HDMI cord should be used for the connection from the LeapTV console to your television.” So I before you buy this product make sure your TV will be able to connect to this device. Also be sure to buy a video game cartridge for the LeapFrog LeapTV Gaming System.

Active learning

Sherme December 15, 2014

I have been looking for a fun, educational, video game since my children were little, 20 years ago. This product is a great attempt at it. I have two 5 year old grandsons that are using the Leap Tv games. They have two very different learning styles. At first they weren't very excited about the games, probably heard "educational". But once I set it up, they had a blast. The games are very physical which is great for active little boys. The set up of the gaming system itself is very easy, even for an old grandma. Hook up the HDMI, hook up the power, hook up the camera, and your ready to go. The one problem I ran into was lighting. When the kids are playing they need to be lit so they can see their image on the screen. Most of us don't have light coming out from the direction of the TV. The problem was easily solved by putting a lamp on the shelf next to the TV. We turn it on only when the boys are playing. The gaming system keeps the boys interested and learning.

Has some drawbacks

SashaSS December 10, 2014

Got this to use in the downstairs playroom when the grandkids come over. My wi-fi connection apparently doesn't reach that far, but I thought I could just use it anyway because you have to insert a game cartridge. It won't let me do anything, however, until I register online. I'm going to give it to my kid to set up at her house and it should be fine. The games are around $23 each. It says there will be a LeapTV app center starting Dec 2014 (now) but I couldn't find apps for it on the website so I don't know how much they will cost. I think that's important because this all seems pretty expensive. It comes with one controller which seems sturdy and the right size, but it has a list of steps to take when it goes into "sleep mode". A second one is about $23. Each game is preset to use either motion, pointer or classic controller. Each cartridge has a different combo of these; for example not all of them have a motion sensor game. I was disappointed to find out that the Spiderman, Guppies, Pixar and Dora cartridges do not have motion sensor games. It's important to me that the kids move around. You have to read the back of each cartridge to find out.

leap frog ar games

josh4 July 19, 2014

Augmented realty is a rather cool technology popularized by the latest gaming consoles. It is nice that leap frog puts an educational twist to it but I really think they would be better as developers on the xbox kinetic or ps move as they have the mechanics of it down better. When my daughter was playing, it got confused by people walking in the background more than what I see from when she uses just dance on my ps4. I would be more likly to buy edu games for the ps4 than another console just for this.
