Definitely has to have been my most anticipated LEGO set in recent memory, and it completely delivered. So nice to see a set based on sonic the hedgehog after the great character pack for LEGO Dimensions in 2016.. The Sonic minifig has received a nice upgrade with better colours, added side detail on the legs, along with other changes to the printing which bring the look of the character closer to his 90's counterpart. Also featuring great building techniques for the brick-built characters with great detail while still keeping at minifig scale.. Green Hill Zone was captured perfectly in this build, with good use of prints on the grass tiles and stickers for the iconic loop.. also with a fun play feature with a working spring to send sonic flying sky-high. Along with the added ability to mix and match the order of the level with modular pieces, it's top-notch. The technic pins at the end allowing for the level to be extended with purchasing another set is a novel idea, and I hope it also may be the lead for more sets in a Sonic the Hedgehog theme.

Absolutely worth the buy. The characters and level are 100% authentic to the level. Yes the 1x1 studs are repetitive but it adds to the look. I can only hope they bring out expansions such as labyrinth, final zone or even sonic 2, 3 and knuckles based sets!

I'll start by saying what a set, it looks absolutely beautiful and bought back lots of memories of hours spent on my fathers mega drive. There was however one issue i had during the build and thats the sheer number of single stud pieces along withe the use of stickers for the loop pattern seems a little lazy. But please dont let that stop you buying this truly unique build.

Shipped quickly, box came in great condition and it was cheaper than the Lego store, where it was also sold out! Great experience.

The building experience was pretty good there is lots of little pieces and some stickers are required they where not bad to put on pretty solid build overall

I absolutely love this set! It was so fun to build, although slightly annoying and fiddly with all of the single tile stacks! But it looks soooo good!

I like how the creator of this Lego kit figured out how to come up with a Sonic the Hedgehog set, especially one where it you can add to it. Which means I hope there will eventually be expansion packs that come with other characters from the video game saga.

It pains me giving this 4 stars because disregarding the big cat in the room, it's a perfect set! Lego Sonic is something I've always dreamed of and although wee had that wish granted 6 years ago, it wasn't to the same level as this. First of all, I have to give special compliments to the graphic design team. The instructions really made it feel like you weren't just building a set but playing a level as well. I love how the set progresses from building Sonic on page 1 all the way to building Robotnik on the last. It really made the experience feel special, especially with the adorable progress bar and I have to congradulate the inclusion. As for the set itself, I don't mind changing Toastergrl's original submissions because the end result feels a lot more like Lego. With its blocky hexagon terrain and 2D aesthetic, a classic video game level, especially one based off of Sonic the Hedgehog, felt perfect for Lego but it wasn't realized until now (The NES set was too direct of an adapation) and it looks beautiful. What isn't beautiful though is big fat and ugly. Those three words perfectly describe Robotnik but not like this. I'm not a designer but why oh why did they decide this was the best result. Using a 1x1 corner tile for the nose looks terrible. The gap between the head is horrible and sticks out like a sore thumb. I tried replacing it with a 1x1 plate but it makes the head unstable and still doesn't look right. The only other option was to make a new mold for the head. I don't know why they didn't because the no new mold rule was broken for a while now. This almost ruins the set for me. Although I'm happy with the end result, I was a bit disappointed to hear that this would only be based on Sonic 1, no Tails or Knuckles so I was really hoping the one new character would be at the very least good. It's not. It's borderline bad. And it sucks because unless this set's sell well, this could be the only new one for a while. So, uh, yeah. If you're like me, just pretend this Eggman doesn't exist and think about the main centerpiece. Because OHMYGOD IT'S AMAZING AND I IMPLORE YOU TO BUY ONE NOW. Buy two if you have to! It's well well WELL worth the price and it warms my heart seeing it on my desk. Also side note: please add a draft option for the reviews. I've lost so much progress for these just because I needed to add a new image or something.

I have been waiting for this set for ages, and couldn't wait to get it and start building . While this looks amazing when finished, the build is a little disappointing. Not very challenging and too many repetitive single stud elements, and some of the items are to far out of scale . So while this looks amazing , I just wish the build experience was slightly better.

For this build, I want to stress that you're going to get what you see - but I also want to stress to look closely at what you see. Tons and tons of 1x1 plates stacked upon each other to create a checkerboard pattern that ultimately doesn't very much speak to the fun of Lego. While it functions well as a display piece and is very evocative of the classic Mega Drive game, it's not a very fun build, nor does it evoke much of a sense of what it physically is. For that matter, it does not come with very many interesting elements you can use, elsewhere, too. Lots of pieces, sure, but they're mostly very small and not particularly varied. Aside from the minifigure, there's only two different printed pieces, one repeated throughout the set, and the rest is stickers, which feels a bit lackluster for an Ideas set - I usually think of Ideas as a smidge more of a deluxe line. More homage here feels paid to caricaturing of the game than to Lego's sense of fun or the original designer's idea. I'm ultimately happy with what I got, as I have a hard time not being happy with Lego's fun toys, but I was unusually disappointed. Eggman's head also looks really weird (the rest of his build is otherwise quite good) and I really wish they had designed a new element for the rings, too.
