Really beautiful build.

Agnarrdottir August 22, 2021

I've been sitting on this for a good while waiting to build it and I was not disappointed. It's intricate, the mechanics are amazing for Lego and it's really beautiful overall. I love the little touches like the paper feed or the return bar. I personally would have liked to have seen the keys be a little more springy but that's not something that takes away from the overall awesomeness of it. If you like mechanical heavy stuff like the NES, or BB-8, this will be right up your alley.

Awesome Set!

CuriousFrog July 22, 2021

This is the best set I have built! It is so realistic I have to tell people who complain that it does not do XXX, that it is not a real typewriter. It sounds like a real manual typewriter when you depress the keys, the roller with the paper moves as you type and you can push the roller back for the carriage return. And it looks a lot like a real typewriter. It is an interesting build and you are rewarded early on in the build by creating recognisable functions such as the keyboard, then the carriage return. I bought it for my birthday and invited people around. The only repetitive parts of the build are early on so I had my birthday guests help me build them. There are only two stickers and they are spot on. I remember rubbing my fingers over the equivalent stickers on our family typewriter when I was a teenager. I made one modification. The roller unit was too heavy and catching a bit on the studs on the base plate. I replaced the little grey wheels with the little black wheels from the blue car in the recent give away when you purchased lego. Those wheels have tyres on which lift the roller unit just enough to run smoothly. I have attached photos of my mod. In one of the photos I have the original grey wheel from the set next to the wheel I replaced it with for comparison.

Stunning set

islandniles January 10, 2022

This is a fantastic set and looks absolutely stunning when finished. Not only does it look the part, but the mechanism works and pressing the keys advances the carriage to the left, which can then be pushed to the right just like a real typewriter. A few things to bear in mind: 1) This is not a repetitive build overall, but the first few steps are VERY repetitive. You'll also have to be really careful to ensure you put all the key switches together correctly (but it's a repeating pattern, so not too difficult). 2) Don't worry that once you've assembled the key switches and key caps, the mechanism doesn't seem to work properly. It won't work until much, much later in the build, but if you've put everything together properly it will work. 3) This is really a bit of a mix of Lego and Lego Technic. There are cogs and gears, some of which are pretty intricate, so if that's not your thing then be aware. 4) It's delicate at times. On a couple of steps I struggled to find somewhere for purchase when pressing other pieces together. One or two steps require patience. If you have large hands or are clumsy, it might not be for you. 5) The letter provided to put in the typewriter at the end comes in MANY languages, which is a nice touch. Overall though, it's an extremely rewarding build and a definite display piece.

Great set! So much fun to build! A+++

PhillyCharizard006 June 30, 2021

This is definitely one of the coolest Ideas sets I've ever owned. It is extremely detailed and looks amazing once it is completed. Pressing on the keys does make a lever click, but for some reason, the thing holding the paper does not move when you press a key. Also, the paper was a little hard to put in the slot. As for the building experience, there was almost no repetition and it had some colourful pieces on the inside of the typewriter. Overall, this set is definitely worth the investment.

Iconic genius

LetMellego February 2, 2022

When I brought this, for myself, I felt elated because it represents everything about me. I learnt to type in school, and have fond memories of me and my best friend trying to beat our speed typing score with our perfectly manicured nails. Sad, but true! Typing is a skill that once you have it, you can't lose it; kind of like riding a bike. So seeing an old fashioned typewriter was a dream come true. One thing I didn't expect was for me to love the build so much. It's amazing!! I say that for all of my builds, but this is on another level. I thought I would be building a shell of a typewriter, but no..Lego have taken it to another level, and I actually can say that I have build an actual working typewriter. To see the progression from shell to interior workings and outer case makes me actually feel like an inventor. Only that I didn't invent the typewriter or the Lego typewriter, but I feel a valued member of the process. The exceptional touch with the red and black ribbon, the roller that goes back and forth, and finished with the paper that is supplied in a pad with multiple languages for you to chose to display in the finished product. Savouring the build like fine wine, it took me about 7 1/2 hours to build over a couple of days. This by far is my favourite of my ever growing LetMelLego collection. Like that well know film where Neo says ‘I can do karate' - I say ‘I can build a typewriter!' Highly recommended.

Typewriter review

ArtisticChicken047 June 3, 2022

Well this set is amazing, I have not bought a Lego set for myself in over 20 years as am always buying sets for my son. But when I saw this set I knew I had to get this. The build was as easy as anything and the level of detail is absolutely superb. Well done LEGO from a very happy customer.

One of the Best Ideas Sets

PninaIsrael July 7, 2023

As a writer and a person who is fond of typewrites, when I saw this model I knew I had to get it. It is beautifully crafted as a retro machine, the choice of color is on spot. I enjoyed the technical building and it's important to notify that there is plenty of that. The fact that one can use it, play with it, is. remarkable. The keys on the bottom line and those on the sides do not work too well.

Lego typwriter

Legoster November 4, 2023

Lego is highly addictive. I brought this typewriter to challenge myself at a much harder build. It was a bit trickery but when you have knowledge how how Lego is suppose to look and the functions it was alright. You defo need to use your thinking a bit but the instructions help immensely. A really gem to have in you Lego collection. Lego need to keep making these types of sets for experts.

An iconic triumph

DaveH5005 August 4, 2021

Hats off to the Lego engineers for turning a great idea into an excellent kit. It really captures the spirit of a typewriter, feels authentic and is thankfully a lot lighter but still looks solid. The build was great, and I love the really clever escapement mechanism that advances the carriage. I did find the choice of arm connector a bit unusual along with the instruction to push the carriage back to avoid the arm popping off. So I changed it to a 135 degree connector (I think a 32192). It was just strong enough to withstand the force, and bends a bit but then feels a lot more authentic. I'm a typewriter fan and have many machines, and it feels right, it looks right, and its green! Great choice of colour. Overall a great kit with a good balance of implied functionality, and an excellent build. I would have given 5 stars but unfortunately found a bent brick in the set, which Lego has now replaced.

My typewriter review

InspectorSkillful January 22, 2024

The typewriter is a berry nice set for display and for play but the build does have one minor flaw, when you push the keys the bar moves to the right and when it won't move anymore you slide it to the left. This mechanism does work however the springs are too weak and do not provide enough force to move the bar all by itself and needs help to move all the way down.
