Out of all the sets that were released with this summer wave this is the one that caught my eye the most... And I have to say that this is one of the best small sets I've done since the Darth Vader transformation set...it's a perfect display set and also perfect for play to recreate that scene in Empire ...I had alot of fun putting it together and it all came together very nicely ...I don't want to bore anyone with pros and cons ...if you love star wars (especially The Empire Strikes Back) then get this set... period! You will not regret it... The only downside for me was that a piece of the bacta tank and window pieces was a bit scratched when I took them out of the bags ..I guess it's from moving around with the other pieces with sharp edges..Lego should definitely separate these clear pieces from the others to keep them from getting scratches or something.. other than that I love it...I even put Luke in the bacta tank inside one of slots on the Lego Minifigure display case ..and it looks awesome ..I couldn't believe it actually fit ...it looks great next to my other Luke Skywalker Minifigures... Lego please do more sets like these in the future... Especially more sets from Empire strikes back... *Cough* *Cloud City*Cough* haha ;)
I've wanted this set for some time! It looks great! Lots of cool, interactive features (medical droid, spinning recovery bed). I love that you can open the Bacta tank for Luke- his bruised eye print is great! My favorite types of sets are the dioramic ones, and this is a sure fave. I don't feel like it has too much playability, but it looks phenomenal.
My nephew was very happy with this and enjoyed putting it together and playing with it.
I usually love the small scene sets and this one is no exception. It does capture the feeling of the chamber with a small amount of pieces. Actually, here's the negative point about this set: not enough pieces for the price. I got it on deal (40% off) so I can't complain too much about this. It's easy to add white pieces and make it a starting point for a big Hoth base MOC. The playability is great too as it is, so it does deserve a 4 stars overall. The minifigures are really great. This set was a unique occasion to grab this medical droid and the naked Luke, wich are exclusives to this set. Princess Leia is available in the Betrayal at Cloud City, wich is way more expensive. Only neg point here: no Han Solo... He is so necessary to this scene and rarely seen out of the Falcon. It's a great addition for the figs but also the pieces and the plates. White, grey and black pieces are always welcome for my city. It was too expensive at it's original price. So wait for it to be on clearance.
This set is one of my favorites in this wave. The build was quick and easy and it has great capacity for play and display. When you are not using this set it folds up to fit in a box or on a shelf which is great for people that don't have much room to display there legos. This is also a great set because it shows an iconic scene from Star Wars Episode 5. My two criticism's however is that some times the bacta tank will fall over although you can fix that just by placing any white or gray piece on top to hold it closed. My other problem is that the medical droid has a loose connection between his legs and body but that might just be my set. Overall this is a great set for kids and collectors alike and I certainly enjoyed it.
Cute little play/display set, lovely figs. Could hardly ask for more at this price. (Some of the small transparent parts go yellow easily though)
the major reason i bought this set was because it is a location. i really like the ships, but i like the sets where tou have somewhere to display your minifigures. the medical droid is pretty cool and i was happy to get this version of luke and my second leia minifigure. i hated the ninjago control panels. those kind of pieces are scarce because most are being used in my resistance base soi had to take some out. other than that, this is a nice little set with some cool minifigures. thumbs up if you want the lord of the rings sets to be released again.
I like this set, but I'm still debating whether it is meant for play or to look at. The detail of the medical center is amazing. There are a lot of like features that make this set a lot of fun. But in terms of playability, I'm not sure if there's much to do. Luke bobs in a bacta tank, while Leia watches. Obviously, in terms of context, there would be no reason for stormtroopers to be kicking down the door. Still, this seems to be a set meant for building, placing on a shelf, and looking at.
I only bought this set for the minifigs in it, I loved them! Really liked getting the new Hoth Leia without having to get from another site or getting the Millennium Falcon, and loved the updated version of Luke from the Bacta Tank. The set itself is smaller than I thought it would be, but really liked the play features in it. It is a simpler set but nothing very bad about it, a kid would really enjoy playing with it. My only complaint is that it is a bit pricey, but if you get a good deal it is 100% worth it!
I built this with my 6 year old--well out of the age recommendations--and have build enough of these with my children that have required additional engineering that I am now adding a review. I am surprised that the reviews are as good as they are...this is a great concept, but it is clear that lego cut some corners with this set. Lego has added blocks where they aren't necessary, and has skimped in places where they are needed. An example of this is the Bacta tank that is always falling over...I dug through my kids' legos and added a 1x4 flat support along the bottom, which helps but doesn't completely solve the problem. Another issue is that the center support for the black medical droid was not long enough to fit into the base provided...solved by removing some of the droid's hidden (!) hardware...A third problem, also encountered with the Darth Vader transformation set and the Duel at Naboo, is that the spacing on the bottom flat panels is very tight. I understand that it is not a perfect world and that lego is trying to hit certain price point with their sets, but it is ridiculous that the center support for the black medical droid can't be 2 mm longer, the flat bottom panels can't have another row of studs. For anyone who doubts my building acumen, I have built these sets for 30 years and am quite comfortable with them. I will say in closing that the days of the large bottom panel that came with the Castle and Pirate sets of old are sorely missed and that a production solution for lego would be to use more recycled materials than they are (found in their own sustainability report).
