I always have a bottle of Liquitex Matte medium on hand.
I love Liquitex Matte medium for so many things. I extend and thin paints with it to make them more transparent without losing their pigment load. I use it to apply my collage papers to my surfaces. I use it between layers to give my paintings depth (it can be like looking deep into a mirror). I also use it for image transfers. It's so incredibly versatile.
