Diy-ed it to be a backpack "locker" station for this upcoming school year since I'll have 1 in TK and 1 in 1st grade and I didn't want to have EVERYTHING from school land on the dinner table every day after school. Look's like it'll work to hold backpacks, jackets, and bins for paperwork etc...
This unit is the most sturdy I have put together in many years. I have recently moved and have put together many, many items like this recently. It is really sturdy and looks great. It uses actual screws and nails. The directions were easy to understand and follow. This was a great purchase!
I love these organizers. Definitely a great investment. I purchased 2 for my craft shop. They are very sturdy and looks great overall. They took my son less than 1hr each to assemble. Id also like to add, b4 I recruited my son I attempted the 1st one and mess the board up.. I reached out to the company and they replaced the damaged parts.. 10/10
The only thing I didn't like was the backings were made out of thin cardboard (easily breakable). Everything else, I have so far enjoyed. The assembly process was moderate. I had assistance setting it up and the person whom helped me had concerns with the placement of the screws in the sense he thought it was “stripping”. We hadn't put the mounted piece for the wall on it. Probably should but I personally didn't want to drill a whole in the middle of the top shelf and see a metal piece on top every time I looked at it. But that's my preference. At the moment it's up and holding.
I have bought cube storage over the years and this build is kinda a pain by yourself. make sure you have space. You only screw in the outside boards and the rest is held with pegs. For YouTubers, this would be up there with IKEA building-if you know what I mean. this board falls, pick it up the otherside falls. My kid tried to help but yeah... so beware BUT totally worth me freaking out. I've got 2. The kids TV is 43" and that's the biggest you can go with this. Also bought colored storage cubes for color pop.
Although my expectations weren't very high for this product given the price, I was still extremely disappointed with the quality. The material feels very flimsy like you'd think it was purchased at a dollar store. It lacks stability and doesn't feel durable enough to hold up over time. I don't expect it to last very long, and I would not recommend it.
I haven’t bought a cube shelf in years, but I was in need of one for my kid’s room and thus ordered from Walmart. However, upon assembling the unit, I was dismayed to find the plastic dowels provided were flimsy and insufficient. Following a fruitless search for suitable dowels, I planned to employ wood hot glue to reinforce the structure. Unfortunately, the assembly process was further compromised when the components malfunctioned, bending the plastic dowels and breaking the cheap particleboard. $45 on this unit and $20 on additional materials. I will proceed with returning the defective shelf tomorrow.
plastic dowels too small for the project type. most cheap cabinets have a solid piece of cardboard to hold the back together, not this one... its a couple small pieces. screws immediately strip out the worst mdf board ive ever come across. currently adding wood glue, brackets, and a proper backing. bought on sale (shocking i know) some deals are too good to be true DO NOT BUY
This item is extremely difficult to assemble (and I have assembled hundreds of flatpack items in my time). The assembly process involves stacking the interior and side partitions together in such a way that they have no integral support. It is EXTREMELY easy to break out pieces of the shelves during assembly, which leaves the entire item unusable unless you get creative with epoxy. Basically, the item is delicate as a spiderweb until it is fully assembled, because the ends and the cardboard backing plates are structurally vital. Once assembled, it is "the okayest". I would not trust the advertised weight ratings; the item is very flimsy and barely maintains its shape even when fully and properly assembled. Spend a little more and get something much better.
Despite the packaging attempts that were clearly used to try and prevent surface damage to the pieces- there were several pieces broken, scratched, or visually damaged. We have a few of these cubes from Walmart and this one was the only one like that- so maybe just a fluke.
