Mattel Bloxels Build Your Own Video Games Creation Platform for Ages 8Y+

My Son got this for Christmas and absolutely loved it. I like that he can express his creativity by building his own characters, levels and story.

My granddaughter was confused as to how all the blocks could possibly become a video game. But since she's into games, it didn't take her long to figure it out. She told me she loves it after making her first little game and looks forward to making many more. Very creative and the price was right until I waited one day too long and Walmart ran out of stock and I had to buy it from the alternative site for more. But having her tell me how much she's enjoying it makes any price worth it.

Purchased 6 sets for a classroom activity involving creative thought and problem solving. The reaction was immediate and the students couldn't wait for class every day. Students were charged with the task of designing the entire game, top to bottom, from their own ideation - they were not allowed to use anything from the Bloxels community (although a lot of that material is spectacular). The final products each student created were thoughtful, creative, and spectacular. During the process there was so much collaboration and sharing of ideas, we ended up writing a tutaorial to help future classes navigate the project. Bloxels are, quite simply, worth their value at three times the price.

5 stars for creativity., but overall 4 stars due to the effort i had to put into figuring out the iphone app. This is awesome! Imagine building video games with lego blocks...and actually easier. Just create a random design on a blackboard and it becomes an environment (called "room") in your customer video game. Similarly build characters and other special things. Each colored block means different things, so thats how you can get creative. A suggestion - build your rooms in good light so that your mobile device camera can quickly capture the photo. The reds and the pinks are quite close in shade :-) It took a while to fully understand the app. Make sure you spend some time getting accustomed to best use your Bloxels. It wasn't intuitive on the small screen on iphone. But cool enough to put effort to figure out :p All in all, a fun board game. Look forward to similar products in the future. My grandson was very excited when he opened this gift. he immediately started creating scenes with the blocks. Since he's taken it to his house, I'm not sure if his mom has helped him get set up with the iPay app to create his own games or not. Perhaps he'll do it himself when he's a tad older. he's 7 yrs old.

I got this for my 11 yrs old nephew who loves to play games (too much sometimes), but he not so much in term of creativity. However, when he got the game, he immediately draws to it and opened it right away. It seems though he was able to start the creating and building the a game right away on his own without much help. He completed an easy game that was recommended to build as a way to get familiarize with the system, but SUPER delighted that whatever he built actually works. I am so glad he finds fun and keep him busy from his other online games. I received this product at a discounted price in return for my unbiased review.

Bought this for my 10 and 11 yr old grandsons. I think it's great because fosters creativity and learning. They didn't like it as much as I hoped because of the learning curve. They don't want to spend time learning, they want to play right out of the box and are used to playing much more sophisticated video games, not a Mario style. So for the right kids I think it's great but not for all.

This is a good concept but once you open the box and try to design a game it costs extra money to do that. It is misleading and sketchy.

I purchased this game for my son and he cannot play it. The box says you can download the app for free to use this game. HOWEVER, you also have pay for an account on Bloxels. This game was a big waste of money. My rating is ZERO stars, but unfortunately that is no an option.
