Just started on my baking journey and wanted a new bread knife for my breads. Had an old serrated knife that was making crumbs all over the place with every slice. Happy to report that this knife makes clean cuts with minimal messes/crumbs over my cutting board and my slices are so much easier to handle since it's also longer
This Mercer bread knife is the one you're looking for! It works great, it looks great, and the steal is quality, making this a true value buy for the price. Get it! I'm glad that I did. We all have a bread knife that came with our knife sets, but if you're looking for a Japanese steel workhorse (without breaking the bank), then pick this knife up.
I needed a bread knife and grabbed this based off of ATK reviews, and they weren't wrong. This bread knife is so much better than my old one and appears to be a quality blade. I don't know how I've gone so long without finally getting a good bread knife like this one!
I bought this for my wife after we saw an America's Test Kitchen video that recommended it as not just a best budget buy, but as the overall best bread knife. The price from Walmart was great, and it has definitely lived up to its hype. The handle is very comfortable and set at a great angle to make cutting items all the way to the bottom easy. It comes wicked sharp and has stayed that way. It makes cutting clean slices of hard, crunchy, crusty, bread much easier. So this is definitely a good knife to get if you want to make your cutting tasks easier.
This is a great bread knife. It does not tear homemade loaves, and glides like butter through the bark of crusty bread. The plastic handle felt a little cheap at first, but for the price, it's well shaped, and it works just fine. I always hand wash my sharp knives, so could not tell anyone about whether or not it was dishwasher safe.
We now buy our bread from our grocery store's bakery section unsliced as an unsliced loaf stays fresh much longer than presliced. I was skeptical after seeing this knife come in first place on America's Test Kitchen when they tested bread knifes. But wow; What a difference between this one and our old bread knife. This one glides through bread like a hot knife through butter. It's a pleasure to use and the cuts are so clean and sharp. I just can't say enough nice things about it.
We feel this knife is a good value for the price. If it holds it's edge as well as it is initially it will be great. It slices all types of bread easily and without tearing. We would buy again.
This is a great knife. I have several professional series Henckel knives and this Mercer rivals them in quality and performance. I love this bread knife. It is well worth the price.
This “bread knife” cuts through bread like a dream. It also easily cuts through just about any other foods I have tried. The knife grip is comfortable in my hand, and the knife is well balanced. This is not an expensive knife compared to other bread knives, but its quality and functionality are excellent for the price.
This is a great knife for cutting bread! I have no problems cutting thin slices of both softer sandwich loaves and crustier rustic loaves. The knife itself is a 5 star knife! I gave it 4 due to packaging and lack of shield. It comes packaged in hard shrink plastic that makes it difficult to get it open without damaging the blade. The company does make a shield for it but it doesn't come with the knife and as the company doesn't sell direct, I have been struggling to find any retailer that has it.
